Dial Rings
I believe the speedo/tach rings were dropped in '96 ? I just read the other day at www.miataforum.com that if you have to do the big ones, the best option is to squash them a little, pass them through the same hole, and manipulate them into place the same way. ie. removing the clear cover is never t...

I'd check that you re-fitted the cap properly... the car can steam and
overheat if the system doesnt get pressurized properly,
The cap has a two-step twist fit... If you only twisted it the first bit, it
may not be sealed properly.

How much is insurance in NZ?
Far far far less than that. It varies a lot, based on age, sex, location, driving record, etc, but most reports by owners of what they are paying for insurance fall in the range $300-$1200. I would expect, being middle-aged, and aiming to be in Auckland, you'd probably be looking at $400-$800 per ye...
Hardtop
Not every car has the attachment hardware, and some years have de-froster
wiring while others dont, but yes, the hard-top is the same for every year,
and if you have the mounting bolts and plates, a hard top from any year MX-5
will fit any other year MX-5.

re[2]: Update on stylebars
Franchise New Zealand magazine & website said... ...a style bar must surely offer a little more protection than nothing? That depends entirely on how, and how well, its constructed, and as there are no standards, you cant make any generalities... I've seen some style bars that are very strong, rigid...

Injector seating
Yes, you should insert the injectors into the rail first... and then insert all four injectors and rail into the intake as a unit... There's nothing special about those O-rings, as long as you get the size right, and they're made of a material thats OK in fuel... Many tuning work-shops will have a c...

11 SEC Dyno Day
I think the issue is not whether you can correct the dyno figures or not... (you can) Its whether you can tune the car safely or not... He went in with a 150HP car and came out with a 250HP car... that means they were tuning... trying different fuel/ignition/boost settings... probably best not to pu...

How was the Taupo track-day?
Sadly, I couldnt make it last weekend, and I'm a bit surprised no-ones come
on here and raved about how much fun it was...
I presume it went ahead? Was the weather OK? Hopefully no incidents?

Just a FYI... Torque Performance does NOT have a dynojet dyno...(and thus the
HP figures are not directly compareable to most of the figures we see from the
USA).

The Next Grass Motorkhana??
The MX-5 club is incorporating a grass gymkhana into the driver training track-day at Taupo... they do not have a regularly scheduled grass event, but usually manage to slip in one or two a year... The auckland car-club gymkhana summer series (everyone including non-members welcome) is next schedule...

re[2]: lightweight flywheel
What you describe actually sounds like a heavier fly-wheel...
Typically, a lighter flywheel should change speeds quicker, like drop revs
faster between gear... also, if you miss-match the revs on a gear-change,
the jerking effect is less, due to the engine having less momentum...

Sean, You've driven my car... Thats with Cams and a Link ECU... (and more standard exhaust and intake mods). I probably have an extra 20% more power than stock? Id say half was due to the exhaust/intake mods, and half due to the cams, but you cant run those cams without the ECU. I've still got more ...

Are you sure its a motor you need? There are several common problems... the switch gets dirty making poor contact, the cables break, and occasionally, the plastic drum driven by the motor that the cables wind onto shatters... all making the window not open/close... but in each case, a new motor will...

The merlot with in the old shape was '97... I beleive 25 were imported by
Mazda NZ, but if it took a while to sell, it may have been first registered
in '98 ?
I dont know which years the merlot was offered in Japan?
No idea of price...

Well, I'd just like to give a counter view... I fitted a shock-tower brace across my engine may and noticed a big difference. Firestone direct put a flier in my letterbox just the other day... Bridgestone Grid-III fitted and balanced in 185/60-14 (the standard size) for $159 each. ($636 for 4) Biff's $135 doesnt sound too out of place if you can haggle with a private dealer. I have driven both 195/60 and 185/60 14inch tire...
