Hey - we just did this one... we got 6.5's for the uuber miata then had to ask someone nicely to slightly enlarge the holes, seemingly cut for 6" speakers which I didn't even know existed... thought they went 4 then 5.25 then 6.5 then 8 etc so possibly the factory ones are a bit 'odd-ball or special...
