Hi Johan

Because of the tension it does need a professional to fix a tear properly.
I had a similar sized split fixed by All Care in Glenfield. Cost about $20 from memory.

I think the GTX had the 6" cwp, so you'd have the same problem as with the early MX5s.
If you are looking at putting serious power thru the rear end, ie. over 200bhp, you'll definitely need the 1.8 diff (talking from experience).

Looks like there's something wrong with my PM system. Yours hasn't arrived.
Could you give me a call on 419 6658.

I thought it might be that place. Any chance of having a look at your car? I think we aren't too far away from each other. I'm on the Shore I've got wheel arch flares to go over the slicks and would like to see if the Invader bumper will work with them. I've tried sending a PM but for some reason it...

Where did you get the kit from?

I managed to destroy my nosecone in a smash at a Pukekohe race meeting a couple of weeks ago and need to get another one that has suitable intakes for brake cooling ducts and oil cooler.

Colin I belong to the Auckland Car Club and the Taupo Car Club, which are good for circuit races. ACC organises motorkhanas but nothing for hillclimbs or the like. You might want to try the Pukekohe Car Club, www.pukekohecarclub.co.nz, as they do hill climbs and sprints. There was a sprint on 28 Jan...

Hi Gazza

I got mine at Fraser Cars in Beachhaven.
The last one cost about $300 at the beginning of 2007.

I'm with Euen and Colin and do all my own work. However, if you don't trust your capabilities try Glyn at City Garage in Auckland city. They know MX5s inside out and give MX5 club members a discount (can't remember how much). I've referred several people to them and they have all commented positivel...

Colin

Check out www.playdayontrack.co.nz.
Tony and Gary organise track days at Taupo and Manfield.
The next one at Taupo is 11 October and costs $125 for the full track.

Only the S3/S4 non-turbo RX7 diffs will fit the the 1800 MX5 casing, and they are as rare as hen's teeth in NZ as very few cars were ever imported. As the Solomiata article says, you can fit the turbo diff as a unit but it involves a fair bit of modification the PPF and other bits. If you want to ha...

Diff Settings

Does anyone know how much backlash between crownwheel and pinion there should be in a 1.8 diff? I'm just putting in a new LSD and the Miata Enthusiasts Manual chickens out on diff rebuilds.

I've just spent an excellent weekend at Pukekohe with the NZ Sports Car Club racing at the Historic Racing Club meeting. Workshop Manual

Has anyone in Auckland got a copy of the Enthusiast's Shop Manual (Rod Grainger) for the 1800 I could borrow for a couple of days?

I am rebuilding an 1800 gearbox for my 1600 car.

Thanks

The flow rate of the standard pump might not tell you whether it will be suitable for your 12A. The MX5 pump is a high pressure unit intended for injectors. Unless your 12A is the turbo injected model you'll have to use a separate pressure regulator to get the pressure down to the 2psi needed for th...

I don't think it's just your car Gazza. Been doing some checking of the US forums this morning and there were a number of comments about the less precise gates of the 6 speed. I think I have also answered my question about the relative strengths of the boxes. Apparently the Miata Cup guys have had p...

Hi Gazza Thanks for the heads up. Sounds like the reverse problem of the 2nd to 3rd, oops that's 5th, shift in the 5spd. All too easy to do in the heat of battle. I got round this one by putting a stiffer detent spring in the 5th/reverse gate. It might be possible to reduce the risk of a 5th to 2nd ...

6 Spd Gearbox

Does anyone know whether the NB 6 speed gearbox is any stronger than the 5 speed? 250bhp under full race conditions was finally too much for my 5 spd. The Quaife gear set from FM looks great but the price doesn't, so I am looking for a cheaper alternative. If you ignore 1st gear the 6sp box gives a ...

Rear sway bars definitely do make a big difference to handling. When I first started racing my Pro7 car I stiffened up the front, with both considerably stiffer springs and sway bar, but left the rear sway bar standard. In my first outing at Pukekohe the thing was oversteering like crazy. Talking to...

I don't know if the NB auto radiator is the same as an NA auto but I have recently replaced mine with a big Koyo so the NA is for sale.

Mark Only for appearances sake, a full cage would give better protection but it does make the car look rather ugly with the roof down on the road. I will be doing the Taupo winter series. I have had the car out at a meeting at Pukekohe last weekend for the first time but it didn't go as fast as I ha...
