momo steering wheels

It's a Momo Competition 35 - 350mm diameter. I also bought a Momo gear knob at the same time - leather covered - just adds to the driving pleasure :-) .

I've got a Momo on my NA. Bolted straight on. Can't remember the model or size, though. Will check it out tonight. Slighlty smaller than standard, so it blocks the top of the dials a bit. I have to duck my head to read the oil press gauge. But I wanted a wheel with a thicker rim - easier for me to g...

awesome driving road - Banks Peninsula

I've been promising myself an "MX-5 day" for some time, and last Tuesday was the day. So I set off for Akaroa. I used to ride this road a lot about 25 years ago when I was into bikes, but haven't really "driven" it for years (taking the family over in a family saloon doesn't really count). What an a...

I've had this problem on other cars. Sometimes cleaning the switch contacts and making sure the switch is well earthed to the body solved the problem. In another case I had to buy replacement switches. suburban_ennui wrote: wouldn't the fact that I got it working, and then it stopped again, mean it ...

gearbox oil

Hi Folks The car's going in for a WOF this week and I'm tempted to get the gearbox oil changed. I've heard that synthetic gearbox oil is the way to go to improve the "slickness" of the change. Is that true? If so, what do you recommend? The gear change currently is pretty good, although a bit notchy...

I don't think I want to move to Auckland. I live about 6.5km away from
work. Takes me about 20-25min by bike (depending on the wind), about
12min by Vectra, and about 15-20min by MX-5 (I take the long way home
:-) ).

Dave (in sunny ChCh).

I agree with Dave. Unless you really need an automatic, buy a manual. It is just so much fun going up and down the box. I've had an auto Vectra for 3 years - my first auto - for family transport. I bought my MX-5 about 6 weeks ago, and it is SO NICE to have manual again :-) ! And such a nice manual,...

battery vent hoses wanted

Hi All Just a belated thanks to all who responded re my battery installation (Glenn, Jon, Greg and Ian in particular). With a second-hand tray and T-piece from Mazline, and some chemical hose from Para, it all looks good now. With the battery out and me being away at Easter, I didn't drive it for 2 ...

Welcome to the "club" Colin. I bought mine (90 red) a few weeks back.

battery vent hoses wanted

I'm now curious to see just what the standard set-up of hoses and tray looks like. Is there anyone on the list in ChCh whose car I could take a look at, or could anyone send me a pic? I realise I can make up the hose and do without the tray, but in one way I'd like to keep the car original. Cheers D...

Just re-read this post. Is the battery supposed to sit in a tray? No
sign of this in my car.

Hi all Just put a new Panasonic battery in my 90 NA yesterday to replace the non-standard non-vented type. However, the vent hoses are missing. Anyone got any advice on where to get some? The plastic fitting that goes through the boot floor is still there, I just need the hose(s). I presume there ar...

Are normal car batteries unsafe in MX5?

Well, I've just bought a genuine Panasonic battery from Canterbury Mazda. I spent several hours yesterday bent over the boot of my newly-purchased 90 NA removing the corrosion from where the battery sits. The car had a normal lead-acid battery when I bought it a few weeks back, and it had been leaki...

Hi Folks Just had the new toy serviced at my local garage. Got a clean bill of health - except for the battery. It's a non-sealed unit. Looks like it's been leaking a bit. Will have to get in and clean the bodywork up in the boot and paint it. I'd like to put the correct type in. Is there a choice o...

I think I've seen that MX-5 too. I believe the local MX-5 club meets on
the last Thursday of the month at Robbies in Riccarton. I'm intending
to be there.
