Stock NB shocks & springs in an NA

hi, all OK - here's the full story. Here's the situation as orginally outlined to Shaikh from FatCat MotorSports - - 1990 NA running stock springs, mounts & Bilsteins from (I think) an NZ new NB RS. - Want to retain the NB shocks & springs but lower for cosmetic reasons. Car is used for daily driver...

Decision made .....

Well, I know that this will have some of you holding head in hands - but I got a set of the RE001s fitted yesterday & I'm delighted ! Very new yet & I had the bike rack on during today's drive, but initial impressions are very favorable. I believe the compound is quite a bit softer than the Yoko A53...

Machine shop to put groove in shocks ? Sth Auckland-ish

Hi, all Am thinking of putting an additional groove in my shocks so I can lower the spring perch retaining ring. Anyone know who could do it, preferably in the South Auckland / airport area ? Regards, Greg PS - I have read of one brave soul in the US doing it by hand with a hacksaw - I'd like to app...

Hi, Paul I installed a zipperless glass-windowed top from Duetto Motors in the US. Ditto re great result - I'm delighted. It also has straps, the purpose of which is to correctly locate the rear-most hoop on the NA frame. They run from the rain rail to the rear-most hoop & also between the rear-most...

Thanks, gents According to the blurb the RE001 is a replacemnet for the SO3 - or at least as I read it. And agree re. tyres out-sticking most drivers' capabilities - including mine ! Aside from the odd club track day I'm not doing anything too severe with the car, however my philosophy is to buy bet...

Bridgestone Adrenelin RE001 vs. Toyo T1R

hi, all Starting a new thread here, though it relates to other recent discussions. Am tossing up between 1) Bridgestone Adrenelin RE001 (the G III replacement) at $189 or 2) Toyo T1R at $179. Both in 195/50/R15. I'm aware that there are strong proponents of both (g'day, Glenn !) & confess to leaning...

Would concur with Euan's comments - a pain to get the old bushings out. I used a bench vice, a selection of sockets & a considerable collection of swear words.

Also replaced with the superpro bushings from Stocks in Mt Wellington.

Have fun !

Sorry - should have added that getting back to standard height (if that's your goal) cost $360 plus a day in the garage .... I'm certainly finding the extra suspension travel nice, though body roll is up.

hi, Ian et al For those thinking about replacing suspensions on NA cars, one option is to procure good condition replacement coilover units from a wrecker from an NB car. I've done it quite successfully - replaced lowered Sustec springs & shot KYB shocks on my 1990 NA with Bilsteins & standard sprin...

The other thing to do is the big brake upgrade :D $80 from my mates at Ace of Parts saw me heading home with 1.8l rotors & caliper assemblies. A few hours later the big stoppers were installed - most of that time being clean-up & painting (black on the hubs & gold on the new caliper bracket). It rea...

Quite right - there are W-shaped springs on the fronts & U-shaped ones on the rears (or the other way round) that locate into the ends of the pads & hold them back against the calipers. All of mine are in place & the rattle still happens ...

Sorry to report that the longer-term evaluation isn't so good - the rattle does re-assert itself. Not looked into it yet - but the quiet was very nice for a while !

Depending on condition & degree of fussiness it may pay to give the larger surfaces a quick rub with 600 grit wet & dry sandpaper.

Depends on how much you want to spend - Presumably they're leather (being V Spec) - so patches are out I would think. May be time to get them recovered, but be prepared for an ouch. Try Vintrim in Glenfield - I've not had any work done myself but when I was on the scrounge for a scrap of leather the...

Control arms - interchangeable between NA & NB ?

Hi, all While I'm at it .... It occurs to me that a cheaper way of renewing elderly NA control arm bushes may well be to just replace the entire control arm - depending on an obliging wrecker with a nice low mileage NB with straight suspension of course. According to miata.net the control arms are i...

Go gel IMHO I've had both - the lead acid leaked & made a mess. There's heaps of info on miata.net & other places on comparisons - charging rates etc are different. Gel reportedly have much longer life so the initial (marginally) greater expense is soon defrayed. Lead acid ones never seem to fit pro...

Grant's quite right - ground clearance is reduced, which can be a bit if a challenge especially if the car is lowered (as mine is). Makes it even more important to get a polyurethane (?) one - fibreglass is a tad brittle. However, I can still manage to get in & out of most places OK provided I don't...

Hi, Gazza & Shermio Thanks for the comments & suggestions. Nope - not the wipers - they're new & quite flexible anyway, but I can see how that could cause problems.
