Quick question. If you want to run the car on the road, it MUST be Lexan correct? So in relation to a hard top, you could just take the top off and go for a cert? Sounds perfect!

Yeah I respect that but still... My mate has an civic hatch same as the one above 1.5L SOHC with a SC14 Supercharger he blew his engine on the dyno at 6PSI haha The D series SOHC engines are VERY hard to kill, musta been awfully unhealthy. Other thing that might killed it is that Honda engines spin...

Love VTEC. Not many 1.6L cars can make 140wkw with barely any headwork

Yep, been on NZH for ages. TBH the CJC MX-5 at the last mega meet was what really got me thinking, absolutely love it.

Sorry, misread the post on my phone, my post would apply to a rollcage/half cage, not rollbar

My understanding is if it goes forward of the seats you cannot lvv cert it and it becomes governed by motorsport ruling. Bolt in requires no cert if rear of seats and welded in requires cert id rear of seats.

If a roll cage could be certed then an authority card would be useless

all buddy club exhausts will pass a wof for noise if the factory cat is still in the jasma spec is 90db with the cat in. i would suspect even the racing beat exhaust might be to loud for the road if you remove the cat . The numbers they quote are no where near accurate... Cant confirm for MX-5's. I...

Be careful with off the shelf cheaper stainless mufflers, my experience is they will rattle themselves to death rather quickly

First mod will be coilovers, brakes then tyres. Will worry about wheels/engine later. Hardtop and rollbar will both be quite early on..

As far as volume goes, if your WoF shop goes by the book, ANY buddyclub exhaust will fail a WoF. As far as silencers go, technically they have to be welded in as per WoF or LVVTA noise cert requirements, so once again, going by the book you should fail if it is removable. My recommendation, keep you...

I was never a serious competitor in Honda Cup, was awesome fun until a broken leg put me out, but I would love to track an MX-5 for at least a year before I considered pulling it off the road/full caging it. Thanks for the posts, let the hunt begin i suppose

Its going to be a big jump down in power and I know that so it won't be such a surprise... Was making 140wkw, ran high 13s on the 1/4 mile. Am I safe in assuming the 1.6 with a small compression bump will make decent NA power and keep decent fuel efficiency, the 1.8 with lower compression is better ...

Is there a link you can recommend to engine specs? Mainly after torque, power, redline, compression, bore-stroke. Used to revving a car to the redline to make power... Won't let me post pics as I'm new

A potential convert

Hi everyone, I'm Jarred, live in Auckland and am a recent potential convert to MX-5's. Have owned Hondas my entire life and love hot hatches. Previous ride was a 92 EG hatch, with a B16A2 (For anyone who cares) that I ended up racing in Honda cup. Dailied it to work EVERY day and loved every minute ...
