Mine is a stock 1.6. With the stock timing, I got no benefit from going right up to 7500, but with the timing advanced 4, I get decent power all the way through, with only a small drop off around 7200. Could it be the water pump cavitating at high revs? I know the SR series Nissan motors have that i...

Friday night cruise - JAFAs
Sup Gangsters. As suggested by Thebears, who is keen on a friday night cruise/fang, ending up at a pub somewhere? Meet out West, perhaps the carpark across the road from MOTAT at 8PM. Head out to the awesome roads on the Waitakere ranges, a fang through Scenic Drive, then head along the Riverhead-Co...

Re: Photos, plates and oil shock!
Anyone up for an evening cruse from Auckland? Blat out, head to a pub and talk the crap out of MX5's  Always keen on a blat in the Mazdarati. Especially if it ends at a pub! Have a funny story regards oil pressure gauges. Friend had a C35 Laurel with an RB30DET in it. Turbo the size of your fa...

Hookers and cocaine! But seriously, even though you say you arent interested in a brake upgrade, it is well worth the money. New shocks would go a long way as well. A decent stereo setup (including headrest speakers) is a must have, and as sprsta said, new suspension bushes. Should be able to do tha...

Correct. The 1800 flywheel and clutch have a larger diameter, so more friction surface, better grip. Don't go messing around with taking weight out of the standard flywheel, spend the money on a proper chromoly one, that way you don't run the risk of it flying to pieces at 7,000rpm and really ruinin...

1. Don't know 2. Yes, replace the cat with a Coby or similar. Replacing with a bit of pipe can make the exhaust have a horrid cackle in it, especially on overrun 3. What part of Auckland are you in? I know plenty of good exhaust shops in Rodney, but other than that, I have had two exhausts done by P...

EOI: Bendix Street Road Track pads
Just want to gauge interest in a group buy on the above pads. They are a grade above Bendix Ultimates. Normally retail at $560 a set. I can probably get them closer to $300 if enough are interested. Need a minimum of 3 confirmed before I can order them from Australia. Only available in DB1282 shape,...

Another option is the Foamectomy. I will be doing this sometime in the near future, to see what it is really like. Basically, it involves hacking a bunch of foam out of the back and bottom of the seats. According to the Yanks (who cannot be trusted) it doesn't negatively affect comfort, but helps a ...

Unfortunately, Bendix don't make Ultimates in the 1600 shape, only 1800. However, they do make the Heavy Duty, which I am led to believe is good. From personal experience, I can recommend Ferodo Excel for street and occasional track use. Also, don't forget decent fluid! You can have the flashest pad...

Seconded. Spend a little extra and get a manual, will be well worth it, I have heard that automatic MX5s are rubbish. Main thing to check when buying an MX5 would be the condition of the roof. Other than that, ask for a service history, and check if the cambelt has been done. They are pretty simple ...
