Fitted set of lowering springs today, and changed the oil and coolant while I was under there. Piece of cake really although some of those bolts were pretty stiff

Narp, bout the same as it was with the old evaporator in it. In fact it's not concrete but tile adhesive. Dries just as hard in the end. I did have a bit of difficulty finding a 'proper' small sub, but lucked out and got a second hand high end carbon coned job. I am constantly surprised just how wel...

To do it properly, see if you can find the plastic duct to replace the unit under the dash between the fan and the heater unit. Makes no difference once you take out the evaporator, save for a 100 grams or so in weight. Heres an idea though. What I did with the (now empty) evaporator box was: Cut a...

Mine's the same. New plugs helped but it can still be a bitch some mornings. My guess is that the coolant temp sensor/s might need replacing. Wouldnt mind knowing what the values for them are meant to be so I can test my theory.

I used 'corriflute' for mine. Same stuff that estate agents use for their 'for sale' signs. In fact, that's what mine was made from :) Had it on there for four years now. The bonus is that it weighs about 10 grams!

All those settings, such as auto-lock, auto-immobilise etc can be set and unset by programming the alarm. It's very easy to do if you know how, or get a friendly alarm tech to do it for you.

Any non certed modded suspension components will fail a WOF... if theyre spotted. You would be lucky to get DIY welded suspension components through a cert as well.

Here's what I got up to a few weekends back and didn't post about. Freshly painted new rims, matt black mirrors. Id already painted the windscreen surround a couple of years back.

Nek step, lowering springs :)

The TB heater has very little effect on inlet air temperature. Probably none at all infact. It is primarily designed to prevent the butterfly freezing shut on cold days and maybe even to maintain a constant air mass so that what has been sensed by the AFM is consistent with what is being chucked int...

Id avoid this kind of stuff if I were you. It will do nothing to remove any coked on deposits or glazing in the combustion chambers, and will have a limited effect, if any at all on removing built up oil emulsion in the induction tract. Better bet is to dismantle the induction as far as you feel com...

Odd, I was pretty sure the TPS in a 1.6 NA is binary. IE it only reads as either open or closed, as opposed to most cars where it is a constantly variable signal.

Almost all the aero benefit will be lost in the extra weight you carry, especially if you use alloy or as ive also seen, MDF!

Just dont watch Series 9 then. They use a blue MX5 to investigate the myth that pouring petrol all over a car, and then throwing a match into it, creates a high force explosion like in the movies. It doesnt, but it does burn the car to the ground. Then they show what is needed to make a huge explosi...

o2 isnt the only sensor it could be. Coolant temp sensor also has a direct effect on fueling, as does the MAF.

Incidentally, backfiring is usually a sign of the engine running lean, so it sounds a little like you have uneven fuelling, rather than just overfuelling.

Paint jobs are pretty much all labour costs, so the longer you pay for someone to work on the car, generally the better the result will be. To help reduce costs you could do some of the prep yourself, like trim removal etc as this is all included in your spray price. Other than that, a good idea is ...

Ah yes the Tweel. Theyve been around for years in prototype form and are in theory an excellent idea. Imagine being able to tweak every aspect of the tyre structure to the Nth degree. Side wall stiffness in particular is the big benefit here, in that you can run an infinitely stiff sidewall without ...

Another note, the early VLSD of the 1.6s is next to useless for drifting. The mx5 is not an ideal drift car mind you. Its short wheelbase, light weight and low polar moment of inertia can make it very snappy.
