Yeah it will a little, although with or without the valve youre getting the same effect. Theres always the option of salvaging a charcoal filter from another 5 and just using that in conjunction with your breather tube. For what it's worth, my 5 doesnt have a charcoal filter and just an open breathe...

Donovan wrote:When you say the one way valve would be optional, are you talking about item 7 in the image, so basically just hooking the hose up to the exit on the top of the tank and running the line out of the car?
Yup, providing that item 7 is the oneway valve of course. Ive no idea if it is!

Nah guys your getting the system's purpose mixed up. So sealed fuel systems are a 'relatively' new invention. Their purpose is pretty much solely to reduce the emission of Hydrocarbons (HCs) into the atmosphere from evaporating fuel. The 'breather' tube allows vapours (which are created as fuel simp...

It would be unlikely that Mazda would go to the effort of adding a union and pipe to the tank, only to block it off again. This could very well be the breather. I can already see a send and return line on the pump so it cant really be anything else. Contrary to belief your tank will probably be unde...

I thought that early NAs only came with the VLSD as standard, and this is nowhere near good enough to lock the axle as you describe. In fact the VLSD is all but useless for anything other than driving on snow.

Must be a very tight retro fitted item?

Youve probably bent something in the rear suspension which has misaligned the rear wheel and is forcing you to correct it by steering to one side. Wont hurt to check the front out though as it may have contacted without you realising.

Three options that you have depending on how long it goes on for.

Do nothing
Try an oil change
Take apart the head and check for blockages/stickyness on the HLAs and their ports.

Why remove the charcoal canister? What did you do with the vent from the tank? Space and cleanliness mainly. Looped the 2 lines that it eventually joins to each other and blocked off the intake one. Careful with that approach. With no vent, the tank can pressurise in warm/hot weather. Ive heard of ...

To help narrow down the source of the noise, use a 'doctor'. Otherwise known as a wooden dowel. Press one end of the dowel firmly on where you think the noise is coming from (EG the alternator) and then press the other end firmly on the bony part just infront of your ear hole. Youll very easily be a...

There are several steps you can probably go through to mediate this. Itll help if you get advice from CA as I can only really go by the system in the UK (which is probably broadly similar). Some important points to consider are: If you agreed a price: Was the price you agreed a quote or an estimate ...

My advice to you is to go to citizens advice, as soon as you can, and before you even speak to the garage again. Do not write, do not email, do not phone. Go straight to citizens advice. Take with you everything you have from the garage. If you have an email trail, texts, phone messages, anything li...

Great idea! If instead of putting one wire to the engine fuse, you put it to one side of the interior light bulb, then you should have a buzzer which works when the lights are on and the doors open instead. Some might prefer this option :) Also, you can simply modify the circuit with a cap and resis...

Something which restores the natural oils in the top will do better than some kind of coating. The Bumper Care works on all black exterior plastics and even makes painted blac...

The easiest way is hand polishing, but it depends on the condition of the paint currently as to what impact something simple like that will have. Its possible that the pads have only really been 'used' where the larger piston was contacting. With all the brake pressure in one area, they have heated up far more in that area than if the pressure across the pads was even, making them catch fire/warp. The warping of the back plate from that heat ...

Thanks for the reply, sounds good! Might want to consider (if youve not already) widening the frog mouth, as this, rather than fan placement, will affect the cooling a lot more. The fans are only really doing anything (other than blocking airflow) at speeds of under 50kph.

Im confused how the cooling set up works though? Are you able to explain what you have planned in more detail? Will the air be channeled, will there be extra inlets or outlets anywhere?

Wouldnt worn stem seals tend to produce most smoke after the engine has been left shut off for a while? I always believed smoke on overrun usually indicated worn piston rings, for the same high vacuum reasons.
