If youre worried about resale value, then just ensure that the mods you do either arent too extreme, or can be reversed before you sell it. Simple. If the MX5 was a low volume vehicle, for which a standard condition car would be especially desirable, I could understand a reluctance to modify it. But...

If youre doing a 1.6 - 1.8 swap, dont worry about the idle control.

The emphasis, I believe, must be on driver training and skills otherwise all you'll achieve is raising the age of incompetance. I disagree. Most accidents involving young drivers would not have been avoided had the driver had more driving instruction or lessons in car control or better physical abi...

Its a good idea. Quidam has it right, its about reducing risk, not eliminating it. Anything you can do to reduce the risk is good. You might get some bleeding heart liberals who moan about the lack of personal freedom, or the 'nanny state', but the fact of the matter is, I did just fine with a bicyc...

Re: Hi, Gear Noise ?
Hi all I just got a mx5 today, it has bit of "gear noise", specially when I lift from the throttle and keeping it in the 2nd gear.Could it be the LSD noise, but i don't know whether it has a LSD. Or could it be the Pully noise? Any ideas? Then engine runs awsome, it has low kms. Also: When is cold,...

Agreed, short nose crank failure is blown out of all proportion. It is as likely as any other major engine failure attributable to poor maintenance practices. In other words, if someone has taken off or played with a fairly major part of the cars engine, and not done it right, there is a chance it w...

Tasty! I had a paddle clutch in one of my old cars, you soon get used to them and they make for a fast change! Love the seat cushion packaging :) Whats the difference in the NB gearboxes that makes them stronger? What was it that kept blowing in the NA box? Also, whats the car in the picture of the ...

Alot of exhaust noise reduction is done with a combination of a mid box and rear box. You might want to look at the systems that are used on cars that came with these engines as standard and try and copy the layout. Mid boxes have alot more of an effect on exhaust noise than you might think. Also th...

MX5 club's Wellington/Nationwide Promo Drive?
Im not a club member, but the club website says this is open to non members, then totally fails to give any details about where and when to meet! Is anyone here gonna attend this nationwide event, if so, any ideas how I can find out about it? Id be keen to go to any Wellington/Kapiti based leg.

You shouldnt fail WOF if you have removed pipes and blocked the holes with grommits. Youll only potentially fail if you have drilled new holes, or not blocked off any old ones at all. The 12v heaters I referred to should be available from any decent motorfactor, I cant find any from a quick googling...

Its not WOF friendly, theyll fail you for any vent or hole between the fire (and the important word is fire) wall and cabin. The problem is not so much the fumes that are in the engine bay at the moment, but what happens if you develop a small exhaust leak and dont realise... Youll also get fumes fr...

NZ Classics article
Not sure if anyone saw this in the July NZ Classic, but I scanned incase people have missed the issue. Makes a great read and should be read by all mx5 owners!
