Where do you get the Maxi5ac? MX5mart seems to have a rear shelf bag, is it like that? Where can I find a spare relocation kit? I think I've seen those in the US, but they involved replacing exhaust piping. Both seem like great ideas, but even with those I think I still might want a rack, any sugges...

luggage rack?

I'm looking for a luggage rack/boot rack. Something removable, but secure to carry extra bags on a road trip. Preferably something in black, but mostly I need functionality not looks. I'd prefer to not spend a fortune, so used might be good. Any pointers on places to look. (I'm already checking mx5 ...

I've never considered removing it from my NA, I like to be able to head out into unfamiliar territory with out fear of being stranded. Some times the canned air/sealant works, sometimes not. Does your NC have the run flat tires? I think those are optional in the US. Or do all NCs lack a spare no mat...

I never thought about it. I did my 94+ brake swap onto my 91 about 2001 and I'm pretty sure I've had the spare on since then, but perhaps not. That old 91 hasn't gotten a lot of miles since then and I can't recall a specific time I've had a flat.

Interesting.

I don't know the Cuscos. I know the Konis are well thought of. KYB and Tokico illuminas are a popular, respected low cost adjustables in the US. Some people like the higher end Teins (Monoflex?). I've used Spax, which were so so, kind of harsh, and Ohlins, which are fantastic, but stupidly expensive...

If you could get 185/60-14 GIIIs for $720 installed or 195/55-14 T1Rs for $1000 what would you folks get? I'll have to get some pricing on the Direzzas too. I wonder how long a set of A048s would last on the street and how deadly they'd be in the wet? (Joking, no way I'd get those for a stock MX-5 o...

T1R's are available in 195/55-14's in the USA, but Tony's tires in Kilbirnie says they are not available (at least to them). There is performance shop in Wellington that said they could get T1-Rs in the stock size, but perhaps they meant the 195/55-14. Not cheap at "about a grand" for a set. I was h...

Me too!!!

I need a nice set of rubber in 185/60/14 as well.

My local Tony's tire has suggested Bridgestone Grid 3 or Yokohama A-Drive. But I don't know a thing about either one of those. Both are reasonably priced, $180, $140 respectively.

Opinions on those and suggestions for others welcome.

I'm not sure if it solves my major dislikes of the NC shape, but I do like the side vent addition you've made. It does help with the plain flat sides.

Looks like an S2000. But I've never been a NC fan. No sexy curves. I'm sure they are good cars. But beauty is in the eye of the beholder and my eyes just don't get excited by those fenders bulges or plain, flatish hood. I'll be happy if Mazda gets some real influence of the Furai into the MX-5. Whil...

We were recently looking at a 4WD to buy on Trade Me (at the other end of the country)...while the AA check was ok, a last minute 'Lemon Check' revealed it had been imported into NZ with 'substantial structural damage' - we did not purchase!!! Where is this 'Lemon check'? I'll be in Wellington the 9th of Oct, but I'll be in a rental for a few weeks if not longer so I'm in no hurry to buy. Where in Tennessee? I have a lot of relatives in Nor...

I'm looking around to see what's out there down there too. I may be buying a car that's going to need tires. Is there something like TireRack.com local to NZ? Someplace that I can price different sizes online? If I get the car in question it would have the stock early 14's. I'd get the Yoko AVS ES10...

If your still stuck in about two weeks let me know. I might be able to swap on the stock lugs since that car is going into storage anyway and then bring the key with me to NZ, then I could send it up to you or something or I'm sure I'll eventually be spending a weekend in the Auckland area. But if I...

Thanks for the info! I'm familiar enough with these cars that I can do a decent job of inspection myself (I've owned 4 through the years and had one for the last 14 years), but having the WOF done beforehand will be one less thing to worry about. That sounds outstanding! Do you feel that was an exceptional deal? Here in the US if I found an all original car with mint interior and the miles and history your talking about I wouldn't be surprised to pay $5000 or $6500 NZD! Most of the NAs here are tired and very worn, they go for $2500 or $4500...
