Looks nice. Mine is very similar, except it has another bar running across for race harness and one running diagonal from the top to the bottom. Yours is definitely more than just a style bar but not quite a half cage. I have to go and see the certifier later this week, it will be interesting to see...

Well done. I guess yours is pretty much a style bar when you look at the technical side of things. Mines a half cage, so it has bolt in points welded to the floor and in the boot. Part of the tray behind the seats has been cut away for the roll bar to fit. I'm guessing that in my case, I refer to it...

Whoa, what's all this about rollbars and getting them certified? Are we talking like MSNZ certified? And is it really $300 a pop just for the paperwork? Got a WOF coming up in November, the first since the rollbar went in :? Separate to MSNZ homologation. Yes it cost me $300. This covers the cost o...

Hi Joan I ended up changing my insurance to a specialised insurance company just for the mx5 but at twice the price. Based on what you have said, I will give AMI a call and see what they can do for me for all my insurances. Would be nice to phone up State and tell them that they have lost all my bus...

Re: WOF and exhaust noise

Hi Scooter. Is yours a full roll bar or style bar? I'm wondering why your roll bar need certification? According the LTSA website if it's behind the seat it does not need anything. [Posted via external email] It's a half cage used for speed events at Ruapuna. In the rules it states that a roll-bar ...

Mine failed WOF last week because of rollbar and possible noisy exhaust (my garage does it by ear). So just had rollbar certified for $300 and the same guy verified my exhaust noise at 87 average for another $150, got a notice saying that it is legal and a pretty sticker on the exhaust that is only ...

Thanks guys. I will not buy this bolt on turbo. Already gained 4 seconds with new tyres. I truly believe I will have more fun chasing extra seconds with it remaining naturally aspirated. I really do appreciate everyone's input. Keep up the good work, this is definitely one of the most helpful forums...

Bolt-on Turbo Kits - How Easy to install

I know I said I probably wouldn't go down the turbo road at the moment, but I have seen a new GReddy bolt on turbo kit for the na6ce b6 (I think that is mine) for under $2700. My question is: when they say bolt on, is it that simple, can someone mechanically challenged like me actually bolt it on, o...

NOW you are talking! Toyo RA1s or R888s? Toyo R888s. Got them today. If the track is available on Friday for testing, I may go out and give them a run, just to see what difference they have made. Might just get the headers done next. Then maybe follow your advice and lighten things up a bit and loo...

hi try don at auto way in hamilton,, down columbo st,, he is in the phone book .cheepish turbo conversion.. I am in Christchurch so that may make it a bit tricky. Another reason I am so keen on chasing more horsepower with this money is basically because I don't often have this kind of money to spend. I am a single Dad trying to bring up my two daughters on my own, so I really want to get heaps out of this $3000. If I can make my car go faster now, then the r...

I am going to buy better tyres. Probably just going for a track/road tyre so I can still drive it to the track legally, also for the likes of the hill climb that I entered over easter. This budget is just for chasing horsepower. I do agree with all of your suggestions but want some bang for my buck....

$3000 to make my mx5 go faster - what should I do?

I have budgeted another $3000 to make my 1990 MX5 1600 go faster, I have no idea what to do. Modifications so far: Pod filter (with pipe ducting cold air from underneath car - not sure how effective this is) Heavy Duty Clutch Exhaust system - bigger pipe and new muffler Shocks and lowered springs fr...

Play Day on Track at Ruapuna on April 26th

Just thought someone might be interested. I personally don't know much about this organisation but figure any track time is good time. I have paid up for the day.

I have to say that I have received some really good comments and advice. For now the wing is going to stay off. I may buy another boot later on an mount it to that and run some tests on the track. I have confirmation that my roll bar will be fitted on the car on March 12th. I will start to look at o...

....were you able to enter your car? Yes, they let me run it. Was an absolute handful on its little road tyres. I spun off at the hairpin, ran off at pothole and my biggest scare of the day was spinning off at the end of the straight. I was the slowest of those that finished, although 11 cars did n...

I have been given a $1300 theft excess by State, but this can be reduced to $500 if I have 3,4 or 5 star alarm installed. $500 excess for everything else. I am pretty happy with this. Also have to name every driver.

I sprint my MX5 at Ruapuna. race tyres should be the first (even second hand on standard rims will make a difference of several seconds per lap) Cheers Ian I'm the guy that had the Silver Honda Torneo that was next to you at ruapuna a couple of weeks ago, I was so impressed with your car that I bou...

Rollbar is hopefully going on within the next 4 weeks. Budget wont allow for big tyres just yet, but certainly is high up the list of things I want.

Cant post a picture till I have made a few more posts. 2 photos on my profile.
I reckon having a different look would be cool, just kind of worried about ruining the look of a nice car :?

Considering the top speed of the MX5, is this sort of drama needed, or just to impress the easily impressed.....?? Not to impress but more to have an original ride. My concern is what kind of effect it may have at 160 + km/h down the straight at ruapuna. Not knowing heaps about aerodynamics I am wo...

To wing or not to wing

Hi all, as you can see I am very new to the MX5 world, my first post will be in regards to a carbon fibre wing I have in my possession, can the MX5 handle the look. I realise it is much bigger than those normally found on a MX5. I am also planning on using the car on the track, what affect do you th...
