Finally fitted the Redben frame rails. Big difference - the car feels far more solid and rides better - feels like the suspension is working rather than the body shaking. Worthwhile improvement and makes the car far more pleasant to drive. Thanks Ben

Thanks for that. Seems to be the consensus on a few other sites. rails are worthwhile but the butterfly brace really only matters for 10/10ths stuff.

Frame rail covers and butterfly brace

Has anyone actually fitted rail covers or the full brace? I'm getting sick of the rattles and shakes and wonder if they make a significant difference?

Drove the new V8 for the first time - just around the block. Basically transferred the running gear from my rough silver NA into a tidy V Spec NA. In theory cheaper than a paint job but a long job. Just need a wheel alignment then certifying... . Love that lack of traction!

Just chiming in to reinforce what Donnovan said - unless you have good fabrication skills (or mates) it is an expensive business. The Lexus is also bloody big - I have just spent weeks trying to build headers for mine. The Ford 302 is so much easier to fit. Lexus makes pretty mild power as well. Don...

Busy week - dynoed the car last week - went well once we leaned it up so it wasn't blowing black smoke. Not as much power as expected but runs sweet now. Then found the rear CV boots had ripped and grease everywhere. Might be something to do with them rubbing on the shox! Replacementy boots fitted -...

Washers will give you the opposite effect to what you want. At low flow they provide little or no flow restriction = small steering movements at speed when you want some more weight. When there is high flow they will restrict and reduce pressure = slow speed, large steering movement when you want th...

Simpler way to deal with the rear brake issue is just to fit a bias valve in the line to the rear brakes. Worked well when I was getting very sideways under brakes at Ruapuns. Tried heel and toe but in the heat of the moment it is far too easy to overcook it and end up backwards in the long grass

The pump probably puts out the same pressure as the Mazda one - they are all much the same. Mine has a bug with the powersteer - variable assistance when turning one way. Probably the control unit where the column meets the rack. When it annoys me enough I'll see if the torsion spring set up in the ...

Hi, All good here - just dial up internet. Busy siphoning the petrol out of the car to run a generator and looking where to start in tidying up the garage! Not much house damage but others in the area look like a bomb has gone off. Just over the hill from Lyttelton.

The ratio is also waay too low - 4.1:1. With the Lexus you feel like you need another gear or two. Nose of the diff also hits the fuel tank - needs a fair amount of hammer surgery. I'm running a Holden diff - easy enough to fit to the subframe with a few brackets. 3.08 ratio is a bit lazy - a 3.5 or...

Thanks Mark. Thinking of putting the turbos on one more time. Either that or get rid of the horrible race clutch. Anyway - no intercooler, miss matched turbos, boost from about 3000 rpm, no real lag, 285 hp atw at 5 psi. (same as LS1). New install will be fully upgraded - matching old subaru turbos ...

Hi, Yes fitted it a couple of years ago. Usual trimming of the chassis rails near the firewall and I made a sheetmetal sump. Height is an issue as the sump has to be super slim over the steering crossmember. Exhausts are just the log manifolds as the engine is large. An LS1 is 50 mm smaller in each ...

I'd think twice about the RX7 diff. It fits easily enough but the 4.1 ratio is a pain. I'm running a 3.08 Holden - bit high. probably a 3.5 would be ideal. Welded axles didn't last so ended up with gold plated custom ones.

Cheers

I'm using 225/45/16 that gripped far better than 205/45/15s on the track. Both with Toyo R888s. However the 225s were on an 8" rim and the 205s were on a 6.5" rim. The 205s felt very "squirmy" so I think getting enough rim width to stabilise the tyre is pretty important.
