Re: MX5 2004 MODEL - Reverberation of steering on slow full
Hi recently purchased a 2004 mx5 and having problems with a steering reverberation when turning hard to full lock left or right. It makes a shuddering noise when in the last 5 degrees of full lock on the turn ? The hydraulic pump makes a slight noise at this point of a tight slow turn. :o Air in th...

Briefly --- The mechanism in most sensors involves a chemical reaction which generates a variable voltage. The typical sensing element comprises a zirconium ceramic bulb, coated both sides with a thin layer of platinum. The outside of the bulb is presented to the hot exhaust gases, while the inside ...

Re: 205/55R15
Just wondering, is there any reason other than speedo inaccuracy to avoid putting 205/55R15 tyres on an MX5? I realise gearing will be slightly higher but have the power to make up for that. ;) Works out as 4.7% higher rolling radius than a 185/60R14 or 3.4% higher than a 205/50R15. Reason I ask is...

It would appear that things became really hot and you may find that you have done in the head gasket and even possibly warped the head. This happened to me when the heater hose at the back of head, blew half way over the harbour bridge. Is there any evidence of oil in the cooling fluid, water in the...

I have made a series of mods to my car in order to improve the driving position. I checked several different seats with the idea of change, but was not happy with any of them. I wound up removing the centre padding from the back of the OEM seat as well as doing some trimming. This made a vast improv...

Thanks, I may bring it to the garage. A Clutch you mean the magnetic clutch inside the compressor? My car is actually running fine but I'm bit worried and wondering about what is the black rubbery (more like tar) looking staff in front (inside) of the compressor pulley . Any input is appreciated. G...

Re: Steering
Anyone know why my steering travels 1/2 a lock more going to the left as opposed to the right? I have had an alignment done but it still turns too far and the wheel almost stops itself or is such an angle that when parking it feels like it goes under itself! I did fit a 2nd hand left front control ...

Hey Habanero666, you really should post a warning before putting images like that up - I'm terrified now using the box to provide engine braking is going to destrol my LSD  The use of engine braking should not result in adverse transmission loading and or clutch wear. The first cars I used fo...

The emphasis, I believe, must be on driver training and skills otherwise all you'll achieve is raising the age of incompetance. I disagree. Most accidents involving young drivers would not have been avoided had the driver had more driving instruction or lessons in car control or better physical abi...

how did you angle the steering wheel, its a bit of a bugger that the wheel doesnt come out from the factory with that ability... like most cars these days My car had a rather strange bracket/spacer arrangement between the column and the cross brace. It must be something related to the collapsing of...

Sorry, I have now ascertained that the MX5 tachometer is first initiated from a signal derived from the igniters and the coils, and only then via the TCU, which is a rather back the front option, but does allow the use of an off the shelf component. As as been pointed, out the MX5 does not have a se...

Latest bulletin: The Camshaft Position Sensor has been fitted! But the car still has the same condition. It's not fixed. My thoughts now are that when VTNZ removed the Fuel Injection fuse and subsequently refitted it, at least one of these operations was done with the ignition left 'ON' and it spik...

Thanks Trevor, I have had similar thoughts myself. UPDATE: Tuesday 14th July. Mazda dealer thinks that the Camshaft Position Sensor is faulty. A new one cannot be located in NZ or Australia and second-hand ones don't seem to exist, so we have gone for a new Aftermarket sensor, price $253. I assume ...

Beadfast, no apology required or expected. :) Not surprised regarding your advice covering toe. On the basis of science and logic, the front wheels should be parallel when in motion. A dash of toe-in is normal to compensate for a little movement/play in the system. I have always been convinced that ...
