MX5 Service

As the car is 17 years old, if the cam belt hasn't been done before, then it is a good idea to do it anyway. The rubber will be hardening and failure may well occur. The good thing is that the MX5 engines are non interference so no expensive damage if the belt lets go, just the inconvenience. You sh...

Gazza, yes I was aware of that, however I find that the Hotmail meets my
needs as I don't have many other emails coming in. I can always get to
Hotmail from work if I want to. Speeds up the connection no end. (I get
46Kbps at home).

I'll watch the roadster forum for a while. I'm easy as to the use of a forum over the email list, I read the list posts and delete as I go, no problem. I use hotmail so I only have a 2Mb limit, so I don't keep many in folders. If I want to refer back to a thread I can reread it from the MX5 club sit...

MX-5 Engine Diagnostics

Ian, this should help. Go to HTTP://www.miata.net/garage/ignition.html
The Miata.net garage is a wonderful mine of information, there are some
errors of course due to the LHD/RHD conversions but for the most part they
are right.

It's there to allow you to raise the light pods whenever you wish. Cleaning
etc, you can leave them up without the power drain of having the lights on.

ps, what is a "sin" roof??

Panel lights

Stuart, I downloaded the '99 wiring sheets from Madracki and have found them a reasonable guide for my '98 NB import. I found a few errors, and you have to be well aware of the LHD vs RHD changes. They are for the US market, so some features are missing and extra ones are there. eg, panel light dimm...

Removing electric aerial (was Re: Sticky aerial)

zorruno, The metal used in the aerials is so thin, and the fits are so neat, that it is nearly impossible to straighten the kinks. Replacement masts are available (for an arm AND a leg) from Mazda. Aftermarket power antennas are longer and the mountings are different, but they can be fitted. I had t...

MX5 hard top

There is a silver hard top (with all fittings) available at Partsworld
Mazda, Rosebank road Avondale. An early one with no HRW or lining. Quite
good condition. It's on a silver NA which has recently arrived. They also
have a red NA there. Don't know what they want for it.

flat battery and trying to hill start.....and ABS

If the battery is completly flat, ie no lights or anything, then the car will NOT start on a push or roll start as there is no power for the ignition, fuel pump or to start the alternator charging. If there is ABS fitted then there is a cube (about 130mm) with lots of pipes going to it mounted on th...

Sadly I must agree with the Mazda number of 249 cars for the record day. I have been counting cars on the panorama I took just before we started and can only see 61 rows of 4, +2 at the end, plus the extra 1 NC at the head. That = 247 cars. Not the 294 that we all thought, to get that many there wou...

Tim, I had a problem once with the air flow metering on my MS6 (626). It wouldn't idle, symptoms sound like yours. I had removed the air filter box to access the distributer (plug leads replacement) and when I put it back together I missed putting the AFM plug back in. Doh!!!. easy fix though. Kevin...

Correct, the connector jumper is required. However it may well be that the air bypass in the throttle body is blocked and the T/B needs cleaning. There is a procedure for doing this in the Miata.net garage forum. Note the warnings carefully as to the cleaners NOT to use. The procedure for the idle s...

Thermostats can and do fail shut. I had one fail shut in my Sigma GSR turbo. The overheat cooked all the valve stem seals and the camshaft seal.
