timing

Karl I don't want to frighten you but one of the symptoms of the crank nose problem is poor performance when the timing is set to the spec mark. The reason is that the crank gets out of whack with the cam timing and the cam is what drives the crank angle sensor. Car gets more and more gutless and pe...

Yay! it runs!!

Glenn Well done. This is not an insubstatial project so you must feel pretty good to have it all going. I'm wanting to do the same to mine one day. Being a 1.8 in a 1.6 car means the available information is much reduced. I'm very happy with the way it is all going now with the aluminium flywheel an...

Aluminium Flywheel is in. Lightened 1.8 flywheel for sale

Replaced the flywheel today with a aluminium Fidanza one I purchased recently while in the States. Job went well and on a short drive just now seems much more responsive and zippy. I had no real issues with the job. Took the engine out to do the swap as is a much more civilized job than the gearbox ...

Reversing Warning

Hi Keith I had this problem with my Galant. I got the old bit out by turning the radio on which sends the aerial up signal and grabbed the bit of plastic and pulled it out while the motor was running. The new aerial came with the new plastic piece attached. To fit you just feed the plastic bit in th...

Radio problem

Hi Guys

Thanks for the tips on the whining noise on my radio. I have had a few
battery issues so I'm picking that that is the problem. If not I have a
spare alternator that I can install so will keep you up to date next year.

Cheers for all the help.

Happy New Year

Stereo problem

Hi Guys I have an issue with my stero in my 5. About two months ago the headrest speakers original started making a high pitched sound that rose and fell with engine RPM. Dead annoying so I figured I needed new speakers. I replaced with the warehouse speakers. All good for six weeks then suddenly I ...

Head rest speakers

Hi Craig

Love to take the credit for all the info but I was just adding to the
thread. I too looked at the web site and gained enough inspiration to do
the job.

A simple and worthwhile upgrade all made possible through the information
posted on the list.

Head rest speakers

I did the headreast speaker swap this weekend with the 100mm warehouse speakers. Rather expensive at $12 a pair. Results were excellent. Lots more volume and clarity from a very cheap upgrade. I needed to cut a quarter moon section of foam from the inside edge of each headrest and the top ouside lug...

Overheating

I had this problem. Had the radiator rodded out with some success. Now only overheats going up big hills. Used to overheat around town on a hot day. I have an 1800 in my 1600 car. I think I need to have the radiator re-cored. Any suggestions for a radiator or better core that handles the heat load a...

I'm guessing that the Factory Turbo is the fastest ever stock MX5? What was
next on the list for normally aspirated ones?

My runs were with autostart off. Does that mean that you

Keith

Thanks for your tip. Do you need to get at the spring from
beneath the car? I figured you would get in from the top?

Let me know how that works for you. I'm going back to
Meremere soon.

Hi Doug

Launch was about 5k and drop the clutch (gently). Lots of
wheelspin. Huge fun. I will look at the clutch when in
there but given it is only 15k old I'm hoping it is OK.

Haws the new motor going?

Hi Mike

Same experience the one time I got third with only a minor
delay.

The next session at Meremere is the 28th of August. I may
go and have a few more goes but need to calm down and sort
the 2/3 gear change. Maybe it really is just practice.

Hi Ian

The machine shop reckoned they removed 2 pounds. I did not
verify that. My new Flywheel is 9 pounds so that should be
really interesting.

OK guys I think I'll change the oil but it has to come out anyway during the
flywheel swap so will do a double swap.

Cheers
