rattling mx5 gearbox
Well, we decided to get the gearbox rattle fixed. took the car (91 fivespeed) to Marshall transmissions in Hamilton. Good crowd to deal with. Fixed quote- no surprises. The rattle came from a collapsed bearing, worn needle rollers. They rebuilt the box, and replaced the complete clutch also whilst t...

rattle noise in drivetrain
My old 91 with 185000 kms is making the same noise. Has been for a few months. But it is getting worse. It isnt any shields, I have checked them all. I have had it diagnosed and am told it is most likely ( I have had two expert opinions) a worn thrust washer inside the gearbox, or loose/worn synchro...

Taranaki Roads
Yes it is Carrington Road, and it extends around much of Mt Taranaki., passing the world class Pukeiti Rhododendron Trust, acres of rhododendrons planted amidst native bush. The road is a brilliant drive. Another good drive is out on the Junction Road from New Plymouth, through Inglewood, and out to...

Is anyone out there?
Yes it still working. My wife and I drove to Whangamata from Hamilton and return this afternoon, with the top down in our 91. Great day out, saw a couple of other mx5's touring top down, no waves though. Some teenagers in an old matte black 76 Mitsi Lancer, swerved toward us in Te Aroha township, an...

Cold Air Box
Not a bad idea. but you might get better results if intake is away from the
fan. Reason being the fan regulates the flow of air into pulses rather than a
constant flow, interrupts the continuous supply of cold air.

Old yank tanks are lots of fun, but the way vehicles handle has imrpoved immensely since the sixties and seventies. Once I have sailed my old yank for a day, heaved the steeering over like a tiller, slid across the flat vinyl bench seat a few times, hung onto the drivers door to prevent roll togethe...

Peter, I have the same thing on my 91, I havent investigated it yet, my best guess is that it is a worn thrust washer in the gear box, on the main or layshaft, where the shafts are up close to the gearbox case chattering, mine has no noise in 5th under any circumstances. Dosnt always happen, but may...

Thanks for that, the current wheel is a momo, but I hear that may be

I was expecting to arrive in New Plymouth and crawl out across the pavement,

Hey, we just completed an extended weekend away in our newly purchased red 91, ( bought from a private classified add and pretty much on a rush of blood to the head) down to the Naki and around and back to Hamilton over three days. People say you cant get much luggage in but we managed to stuff two ...

Congratulations, my wife and I just bought our first mx5 three weeks ago too. Its a red eunos, 91, mechanically fine, paint will get attention soon, but we have rebuilt and restored many classic cars including rare ones that you have to make your own stuff for ,so we figure an mx5 cant be too daunti...
