89/90 problem
3. rotate crank by hand or with socket/spanner
Just a note here... the Miata.net article specifically warns against
rotating the weaker short nosed crank with a spanner or anything else
attached to the crank nose bolt.

Snippets from the web... Certification is also required when a vehicle: a.. is being re-registered b.. has been modified in a way that could affect its safe operation c.. has to meet additional safety requirements following a change of use (e.g. private car to a taxi). What if I've modified or rebui...

Suspension (long)
Note that this does not debate the issue of whether it is a good thing performance/cost wise - (I can name some people that have a single coil off their rear springs only with Konis and state the ride is great. I would doubt this would be the case with OEM shocks or HPs/Bilsteins) - people will have...

Legalities of aftermarket springs on a rainy Wednesday
Howard, The only times we have been questioned about our suspension have been at VTNZ WOF tests, and the question was always "have the springs been cut". Answer was no, and they said that as it was an aftermarket change, it "might" be in need of certification, but there was no problem with the warra...

MP3s in your car?
These are available in NZ, I should have said... supplier's recommended retail is $799 plus GST, but I would be looking at maybe $650ish depending on number. I know someone who has bought and had one installed... installation was $80. Not an MX-5 though. Price not to be quoted outside of the list. G...

Hi Michael, Advice - don't buy an 89 / 90 as the early cars have a crankshaft issue that will eventually rear its head on all of them... most are into the danger zone now, post timing belt change. If you are really serious about adding a turbo look for a 1.8 instead of a 1.6. They are better candida...
M2 Mk2
Besides the colour - what did the new car look like shape-wise? Do the
headlights look better than on the previous M2?
Pity the claimed power increase doesn't seem to be real... several dyno
comparisons done in the USA now and they are showing no significant change
between M2 Mk1 and M2 Mk2.

Shocks & Handling
As there has been a little discussion of shocks... I have Tokiko Illuminas, and have had them in the car for about 4 years. Originally I set them as seemed appropriate (3 in front 2 in rear) and left them there. I wanted to stay away from the boy racer tendency to put in adjustables and then set the...
Hot Rod
Springs are a lot less expensive than shocks... if you can afford the shocks and want the lowered effect then a good set of springs is worth the investment, and done at the same time there is no additional installation cost. I've been told that the Racing Beat "Street" springs are a very good match ...

This obviously depends on the temperament of the particular occifer... and whether he likes cars or not. We have been stopped once, my wife was coming back from the city. The officer involved expressed concern that the plate that had been replaced by the stick on one might be running around on anoth...

There is an arguable position on no front plate, or at least on a non-standard front plate. Colin, who I drove up to Taupo with, has the info. His partner is a lawyer. He has been reluctant to widely disseminate the info though, as he thinks it is likely to result in a change to that applicable law....

Not me. This can be dealt with either by an up to date anti-virus product, or by making sure you have all the Microsoft updates from their update site. I don't think it came from the list though, because infected emails usually generate a message in Outlook that there is an unsafe Active-X component...

John, I would try Mazda, and see if they can supply you with a factory touch-up bottle. I have one for the "classic red". Its a small bottle with brush attached to cap, and a ball bearing inside to mix the paint up when you shake it. If they haven't got it ask if they'll import one for you. They hav...
