I just wanted to watch Bathurst...
and there is no free to air broadcast and the live stream isn't available in NZ because Sky has exclusive rights to screw us over.
The stream we were watching online suspiciously went dead about half an hour ago :[

Yep we recently tossed sky and bought an igloo box for the lounge and a $25 trademe freeview box for the bedroom to utilise the left over sat dish.
Sky used to be good when discovery had monster garage, rides, American hot rod, American chopper but since they stopped all of those it was full of crap programmes and way to many adverts for their own programmes. Good riddance.

sky is in the same boat as the music industry....
the market and marketing methods have changed and their sales model is no longer valid (or the monopoly). I suspect we will see sky die a slow death over the next 10 years and the only reason it will take that long is because people are stupid sheep and are very slow to seek out alternatives.
when I explain streaming to some people I see a look on their face as if they are about to ask me "are you a wizard?"

I dumped SKY about 16 years ago. At that rate back then that they charged I worked out the numbers and found that i would spend $11,000 by the time my daughter turned 21... Well she was 18 last friday and I dont miss SKY at all. They advertise themselves TOO MUCH these days. Not to mention their rates have climbed and the quality of shows declined.... Luckily my mates have it still to watch the league on. More social viewing with others also.

i got my mate in australia to sign up to the official V8 supercar live feed.
then i just installed "mediahint" addon into firefox and then simply logged on to the live stream ...easy as.
there were several live streams of lesser quality that had the support races too such as "pigboy" tv and "nascar49" streams.
so i watched all the support races on pigboy then used the official stream add free for the main race.

I would have paid Sky if they offered a streaming service at a reasonable price, just like I would have paid them for Game of Thrones and a small number of other TV programs.
Seeing as that obviously doesn't fit into their business strategy of selling people an expensive TV habit and my money isn't worth anything to them I had to find other alternatives, in both cases, 'piracy'.

That helps putting it in perspective...Sky or help your kid pay their Uni fees etc? I'd go with the latter.GRUVBB wrote:I dumped SKY about 16 years ago.
