Brake pads
Looking for a set of brake pads for my wives new MX5. Just after a good quality standard set. Where are the best place to buy them from?

don't bother with silverline brakepads (they are generally the cheapest option) I have a set on the front and they squeak while braking and they don't have the holes for the anti rattle springs.
for a daily driver don't bother with performance pads which wear fast when you don't really require that much braking power, but don't be cheap either.

The remsa pads give really good street performance, but are a bit dirty so if you have easy to clean wheels they are a go.
I now have trw and thermoquiet pads available also depending on the model
Although i have the silverline pads available, i would personally go for something a bit higher spec on the mx5

Na8 discs are really hard to get at the moment. I got the last pair of trw ones for a custy a few weeks back.
But I have just found one of my wholesalers has landed a shipment that includes 10 NA8 Front rotors, so if you want some be quick

its advisable but not essential when you have a good quality pad.
It needs to be a proper brake part lubricant or a copper grease. dont use normal grease.
I would advise removing the caliper slides and cleaning and relubing them while you are at it.
When you return the front caliper pistons, put your bleed bottle on and crack the bleed screw open, return the piston in as far as it will go and this will expel crap that has built up in the fluid behind the piston. then reassemble the caliper with the new pads and give it a quick bleed.
i advise against returning the piston without cracking the bleed nipple as forcing brake fluid backwards through the system can sometimes damage the master cylinder.

Its not uncommon to not have the springs installed due to the age of the cars and some of the cheaper versions of pads dont have the fitting for them so they get thrown away. My na8 doesnt have them and i get an occaisional rattle but only from the rears. Not enough to worry me but if you want them i think genuine mazda would be the only way.

Ok - thats it, last time... called JA Mazda parts dept., guy has just told me 30 seconds ago they do not stock Mazda MX5 pads in New Zealand Mazda Dealerships, and they would have to come from Japan.
Thats right lol, John Andrew Mazda does not stock Mazda MX5 pads, they must be specially ordered from Japan.
Right.
