Magnificent Marlborough MX5 day
Life's good in Marlborough!
Had a great trip from Blenheim to Kaikoura and return today. Very warm and
sunny. Had to go there to get a helicopter to fly to a remote radio repeater
site for some fault work. Managed to get the required equipment in the MX5
boot. The advantages of being self employed means that on a day like this you
get to use the MX5 and get paid per kilometre as well.
Just thought I would let all you office bound people know what it's like out
here in the real world!!

Well that's just really nice isn't it!! Do you detect sarcasm and jealousy
here, especially when you mentioned office bound people! Not only office
bound but here in good Taranaki, it was definitely Top up all the way to and
from work today, haven't had the Top Down for weeks almost!!
Please fingers crossed for our "Around the Mountain" event here at the end
of the month, it can be a great place if the rain stops! Actually our
chapter can boast - apart from a club promotion at a Mazda Dealer we did
recently, we haven't had a Top up event for a whole year, always sunny and
off we go. (oh heck, I said all that out loud didn't I!! - no it's not going
to rain and if any of you out there want to see this part of the country,
Kiwi (NZMP) tankers and all - let me know, it's going to be a fab time.

Well, I'm really starting to itch. My MX has been off the roads for 2
weeks now and won't be back on them 'till mid next week.
Are there any placebo drug trials at the moment to alleviate mx5
withdrawal symptoms?
Scott.

I could have added that I had a good top down run to Nelson yesterday to a
Microsoft seminar but didn't want to rub it in too much!
Just thought the list was a little quiet hence the post. Pity I couldn't add
a photo of the MX5 waiting beside the Jetranger. Surely two of the best
means of transport around.
Good luck with the run around the mountain. The Blenheim club has a run to
Lake Rotoiti at the weekend, but I have to miss it. Will be providing
communications for our hospital while their power and phones are all out of
action for a major generator plant install. My turn for a boring indoor day
on Sunday...and it's voluntary so no pay.

Yeah, how about driving an MX5 in the wet... with the top up, finding
the point where your tires break away >:) Not quite as nice, but there
have been breaks in the weather where I've dropped the top down, much
easier when you don't unzip...

I rolled a luge at Rotorua. Mind you, if they will arrange corporate events
which involve luging halfway down the hill, eating and drinking vast
amounts, and then getting back on the luges again at almost midnight, what
can you expect?

Yes, Marlborough's nice...
Went to wellington for Labour Weekend. Left Auckland on Thursday morning
0600 hours, breakfast in Taupo, lunch in Hastings, dinner in Wellington.
Came back up on Sunday - Wanganui/Waiouru/Rotorua... overnight in Rotovegas
and back to City of Scales on the Monday. 1500kms.
Points of interest :
1/ spotted 8 MX5s on the road - only 1 topless : well done Hamilton!
2/ scraped 492kms out of a tank of gas Auckland-Featherston...
3/ convinced a Thrifty van you don't tailgate me ever! especially on loose
metal.
4/ found a fantastic little road : north out of Wanganui, looking for a road
across to SH1, "Field's Lane"... 52km sealed single lane tight curvrs
through hilly farmland - the little dragon loved it!
5/ only had the top up crawling through Rotorua looking for a motel in the
rain, got back to work with a better tan than those who'd fled to the Gold
Coast!

If you don't go below about 50km/h then leave the top down in the rain and
you won't get wet. You will get wet though when you stop to put the top up
though. Works with the MX5 I'm told (haven't had mine long enough to find
out yet, and almost a drought here already this season). Worked with the
Jensen-Healey I owned for three years back in the '70's. Get funny looks
from people when you are happily driving along with no roof and the wipers
going!

Yeah I know all about that, my top is usually down, just the downpours
we've had lately I think it would have to be over about 130km/h to make
a difference.
Has to be really bad for my top to go up =) Even with all the bloody
traffic lights in Auckland...
Still they do drain/dry out quite well

We don't have any traffic lights in Blenheim. Come to think of it, there
aren't any in the whole Marlborough province.

I took my driving test in a place like that - we had to drive out to a new
housing estate to find an imitation roundabout so I could be tested on
something interesting. The next week I was driving in central London...

Apart from the fear of going off some of those corners, I thought they
were weak.
Perhaps we need to do a big mx5 event where we go and do extreme things,
other than the fear inducing luging...

prams (a while ago!) and I have never felt so effing threatened as
when I luged. They are monstrously dangerous, don't do it.
