FE3 (FE DOHC) Swap? (or other ideas)

Post by quinciniho » Sun Mar 12, 2017 6:13 pm

Hey Guys,

I've been researching and reading up on stuff for going on 2 years now in regards to engine swaps, turbo/SC setups, NA builds etc for my 97 NA.

Has anybody local done an FE DOHC (FE3) conversion from the KIA Sportage?

To my understanding it's the "big block" to the BP "small block" and can be stroked to 2.2L with a F2T crank.

I have also looked into the K8/KF/KL V6, J35A, LFX V6, 1UZ-FE, SR20DE/T, K24, 13B/T, Saab B234.

If anybody in NZ has gone through any of these conversion I'd love to pick your brain and hopefully this may help me finally make up my mind.

For context, any fab work and welding cannot be done by myself, for wiring I have friends who are auto electricians that should be able to sort out that aspect and a friend who works at a CNC cutting shop for trans adaptor plates/engine mounts. I know i should just go turbo, i know it makes sense, but I can't help wanting to swap.

Thank You in advance guys :)
