turbo modifications and theory for kiwis

Post by 2low2c » Fri Jul 25, 2014 11:48 am

EDITED: original post deleted. contains serious factual errors...conversation follows.....
you want to kill your engine in a short space of time listen to jazz, if you want a set up that lasts for years listen to everyone else.

Ah jazz I see you are back after you said you were leaving for good.

As said in previous threads, post some pics or even motion pictures with sound of this amazing setup and they will give people a lot more info than what you can type.

How did the dyno run go that you said it was booked in for?

I have a skateboard that cost me $1.00 at a garage sale so you will have to go 1499 times faster than me.

Done deal.

And I,m not afraid to put a picture of my skateboard on.

Wait does the $1500 include the car and the engine swap or just the price on the turbo setup?

I did my turbo engine setup for $2,000 including an intercooler (worthless though, I know) Link ECU (factory ECU is far better than this), alloy radiator etc.

It's possible to do it on the cheap and have an engine that won't last its next service, and it's also possible to spend slightly more and actually have a reliable engine.

What do I know though!

1;1; rising rate reg IS NOT ENOUGH FUEL. why the hell by a 1:1 reg when the CORRECT ones at 5 or 6:1 are the same price? facepalm.

you may think your all that and a bag of chips but simple physics says your setup wont work. stock injectors at 50psi IS NOT ENOUGH FUEL for a turbo setup.

oh and you dont even have any idea that the stock ECU will pull back that teeny bit of "extra" fuel you are putting in below 4500rpm as it runs open loop till 4500rpm...thats why us guys with piggybacks have to use an o2 clamp.
so when boosting at ANY throttle position below 4500rpm your car will be too lean...end of story. no matter what fancy enginimeeringk you got...

Please kids ...dont try this at home.

If your car does even half what you say it does we want to see it ok

This thread is worthless without pictures
everyone has a camera in their pocket these days
and if you can turbo a car then uploading a picture or three should be dead easy

and damn i missed the deleted posts - anyone get a copy before it went ?

Now I'm curious and need a good laugh
Anybody help me out?

I'll race you Jazz
5 Laps of Taupo on the 15th August
For every $100 more I've spent on my turbo conversion I'll give you an additional 1 second lead. (I have receipts too) -
That's MORE than fair. - F1 teams spent millions to gain 10th/sec

the original post was full of great "advise" on how to turbo an mx5....
still havent heard how the famous sunday dyno session went...

this guy OBVIOUSLY needs to share his Jedi turbo knowledge that has physics bending powers and we all know nothing.

please educate the masses then how you are overcoming the factory ecu from pulling back fuel without the use of an o2 clamp and what air fuel ratio you are running below 4500 and then above?

i'll give you some time to answer as you obviously have no idea what im talking about.

This needs to happen at the next monthly meet.

To let people be informed on who to bet on Jazz; can you please post a picture of your turbo set up? Since most have all seen Jared's "baller money $6k" setups it would only be fair to see yours.

once the engine is warm the mx5 ecu runs in closed loop in all conditions under about 4500 rpm. even at full throttle its in closed loop. ANY extra fuel you put in, the ecu sees this and adjusts the mixture back to stoich again. even with my setup running a piggyback and 385cc injectors, the stock ecu could still pull out nearly all the extra fuel i was giving it.

you cannot be running safe air fuel ratios, its that simple.
your setup would only have a theoretical HP increase of about 25-30% based on about a 15% increase in fuel pressure and a 10-15% leaning of the factory afr's taking your afrs from around 11:1 to 12.5:1.

but those figure are irrelevent anyway because the ecu is still pulling out that increase.if your car is making any more than about 90-95rwkw then you are in engine destroying territory.

the mx5 motor is pretty bullet proof and can tolerate bad tuning, but that no excuse to tune badly.

Guys, you can not teach someone something when they know everything.

Jazz has got a hp number, it goes like a cut cat

That must be at least 400hp

Ill race you Lopez, 6 laps of manfeild, your turbo engine vs my stock standard engine. I'd advise not painting it first because I don't want to have to repaint it to get rid of the nasty harlequin paint. The balls in your court.
