If I was going the V8 route I would lean towards an ls1 as there are kits you can buy that make things a lot easier. Donovans build is sexy sweet, but has has done that hard yards to get it where it is.

Just remember that most of those kits only cater for lhd cars and a lot of custom work would be needed to make them suit our rhd cars

Hey JazzLopez,

We are organizing a wee run on Sunday, would be very cool to have this car along for the ride.

viewtopic.php?t=11058

We will be stopping off at Team Jelly's place and he has said that you can put your car onto his dyno for free!

It's gonna be epic!

CU on Sunday!

Seriously biggest crock of shit I have ever read. Guys don't drop to his level of stupidity, he will only beat you with experience.

You may not need much to turbo an MX5 ($1500) but I would be investing in a Dictionary its much cheaper.

Sigh what is this forum coming too......

This car must be legendary!!

Tuning the factory computer on the dyno with stock injectors, and paying for the experience

Yet turns down a 'FREE' Dyno session!!

That's very nice of Torque performance to open on a Sunday AND dyno a car for free
Make sure you get a Dyno and Air fuel ratio readout, as we're all keen here to see it
Cheers - Jared

My name has been used a bit in vain on this post, so thought I would stick my 2 cents worth.

Firstly, the kits from v8 Roadster come in LHD and RHD, the only thing you can't use from the full kit is the headers, but the full kit will set you back a lot of $$$.

I wouldn't bother with a Rover V8, they are small and light, but don't produce that much HP stock, you have to strip them down and spend a bit of time and effort. Bang for buck, go with a Lexus V8 with a celica box and a FD RX7 diff.

Jazzlopez, have mentioned this a few times, if anyone is considering doing a V8 conversion, happy to talk to them, I am no expert mechanically, but have the experience of going thru a conversion process and am well aware of the things to watch out for.

As for your Mx5 being the fastest in the country, I still am open to taking anyone for a ride in mine, I am running a 5.7ltr GM LS1 V8 motor, and even I know I am not silly enough to proclaim being the fatest MX5 in the country.

Im Keen As on a ride Donovan and happy to give you a good wad of cash to cover the fuel consumption that more than likely will be used. Obviously a dry day would be the best time for this to happen.

I'm fairly confident the fastest MX5 at current in NZ, will be the twin turbo Lexus V8 one running down south.

Might as well go completely off the subject here, as I am sure no one is going to object, and basically hijack the thread.

When we are talking about the fastest MX5, what discipline are we talking about, fastest 0-100 time, 0-200, 0-300?, fastest 1/4 mile, fastest 1/2 mile, fastest flying mile, highest top speed (yes, not the fastest), fastest time around a particular track, or a group of tracks, or just the fastest down a gravel road.

They all have there merits, and just because a particular car is the fastest in one thing, doesn't mean it is the fastest in another thing.

Not that I am taking away anything from MX4000, but just putting it out there for debate

Fair point Donovan, I guess to me fast is straight line stupid fasts. Pure hp, in saying that, I do remember Terry's MX5 being fairly well sorted and nearly lifting the front tyres at Meremere.

Mind you, it'll all be a moot point soon, Mad Mikes rotor NC MX5 will blow anything else out for a good while in terms of HP.

Post by JazzLopez » Thu Jun 19, 2014 7:34 pm

didn't say i have the fastest......i said bang for buck i do.....ive only spent 1000 incl on parts.... jared from team jelly wanted 6k to make it go fast, other people told me it cant be dome,, bla bla....i know owners are looking for the cheapest way to give their little miatas some off the mark pep.....the kiwi bullshit attitude, is dumb "fear and bullshit",,, it can be done easily, it doesn't cost 4 to 6k you can run stock ecu, stock afm, little td04 turbo unit,
some clever piping and clever thinking....a,1:1 adjustable duel reg.... so if you want to come and see if its true im out west in glen Eden....it goes great for 1500 bucks total....if you wanna come out pm me....i dont mind if you copy what ive done.....

as for v8 lexus no,,,,, to much wiring no thanks even though i believe their one of the best engines....im going old school on this one
