correct timing for mods?

Post by misterjb » Sun Feb 09, 2014 9:25 pm

Just wondering if anyone knows. Ive rebuilt my B6ZE out of my NA6CE. As part of the rebuild I had the head sent away and port polished, had valves back cut and the inlet manifold port matched, other mods include tuned to length headers plus flowed exhaust and performance panel filter. Did bottom end while i was at it to. What would be an Appropriate timeing to set the engine to with these mods, And what would be peoples recommendations for A tuneable ECU or chip etc etc.

Most people run 14° timing on factory engines, maybe start there, just remember to run it on 95 octane or above just in case.
Good ecu's to go to would be an older generation link as they can be picked up for pretty cheap and most tuning companies are familiar with them

standard timing is 10° but yeah go 14° for a nicer power band.
You could also look at a mega squirt ECU, I believe theres a dude in Tauranga that builds and tunes them for mx5's.

I ran my car with 14 degree timing (1994 BPZE) but eventually decided that shifting the power band down slightly wasn't worth the ~7% increase in fuel costs from running higher octane fuel than necessary.
