Oil catch tank
I have a supercharged 1.6 and I am upping the boost to around 7-8psi. I have read, been told, that I should install a oil catch tank and a 323 gtx PCV valve.
Three questions.....
Is this worth doing? And does anyone have pics of this on there own car.
Has anyone heard about upgrading the PCV valve like this?
If I go ahead with this should I use a vented or non vented catch tank and appox what size?

If you run a catch can, don't buy a shitty trademe one. Do some research into it as the design can vary alot. I would run a vented ~750ml to 1l. Not sure of design on an MX5 but I ran my civic one from valve cover x2 to can to sump.
As for the GTX PCV. I've never heard it yet. Plenty of guys run big power turbo systems which I'm sure generate alot of crankcase pressure without changing it

This was my understanding too. What I was getting at was if you had 2L of oil in a catch can, you've got problemsbuilt4speed wrote:Incorrect as far as I know you don't apply the turbo conversion factor. It only needs a 1L one. My evo only had a 1L one being 1996cc. Ill even ask at scrutineering when the mx5 goes thru today to confirm.

The current Motorsport Manual says "engines up 2000cc (uncorrected) shall have a tank of at least 1L" and "engines over 2000cc (uncorrected) shall have a tank of at least 2L".
When my car was first scrutineered way back in 2004 they specifically asked about the tank size (that it was =/>2L), and I would assume that the wording above still means that a 1.6L turbo is "corrected " to 1600 x 1.7 = 2720.
