Stock ECU with ITBs...

Post by Furai » Sun Mar 24, 2013 8:51 am

So I was reading up and ITBs would be pointless on the stock ECU because the AFM would limit the airflow negating power gain.

However I found the RX7 FC AFM mod from the NA models which flows much better.

So I was thinking if you combined these 2 it might work(Not as good as an aftermarket computer but when I can afford a good one I will.) with a sealed airbox.

So the question is would the injectors cope? An air/fuel ratio meter would be a good idea, can you jus put bigger injectors on?

Also dont tell me to put the money on Forced induction. I want to waste my money on ITBs.

I would say the 1600 injectors would easily cope but to be safe you could throw in the tan-top 1800 ones and still not affect idle etc.

fixed for you

but in all seriousness isn't this whole exercise so you can have trumpets and make cool sounds?

i wouldnt waste my time with an rx7 afm
just save for a link or similar
You will be spending enough just to get itbs on there so you may as well do it properly

How much is a RX7 afm? Megasquirt's aint a crazy price and they cover the basic's.
I think TeamJelly do a tune for ITB's....

A member on heres selling an afm for $60.
What you are trying to do is a very crude way of tuning, best way would be an aftermarket ecu either link or megasquirt
but even then i dont think you will get the power gains you want.

I would think so long as you put a plenium on it and maybe some 1800 injectors it should run fine until you fork out for a ecu
but personally I wouldn't bother putting it all on until you get the ecu

I have been told the standard ECU will run the 1.8 injectors just fine so i,m guessing it would work as well

bigger injectors are a waste of time on a stock ecu'd normally aspirated 1600.
the mx5 runs PIG RICH at wot so leaning it out is a better idea rather than making it even richer. i run a leaner WOT mixture on my turbo than the factory NA tune, thats how stupidly rich it is stock.
itb's on thier own arent going to make a huge difference in HP that youll need bigger injectors.
people have to remember that a b6 1600 is no frekin honda! the head flow is crap and the cam durations arent right for high rpm like a honda motor is....
if your gonna fit ITB's then get a megasquirt.
its that easy.

AFM won't work if you actually want to be cool and run trumpets.

Just delete that part, get a link, and run open throttles like a mad c*nt. there's no point investing dollars in an ITB set up if you aren't gonna let them scream.
