engine hesitant

Post by Monty » Mon Jul 23, 2012 1:51 pm

Hi All, I have recently bought 94 1800 NA. I am having the occasional problem with the engine not revving properly. It seems to hesitate then after a few seconds kicks in and off we go. There is nothing showing up on the diagnostic system. Any ideas or thoughts?

Clean out your spark plug holes, replace your plugs, replace your leads, clean the throttle body flap & check for leaks in your intake tract plus check your air-flow meter flapper vane[i think the 1800's have one] for free movement.

Good place to start the elimination process!

First thing I'd do is replace the spark plug leads. I've had this problem numerous times on several cars, and it always turned out to be the leads.

Thanks folks. All good suggestions. I will check with the previous owner's mechanic to see if these have been done.

Actually yeah, I had this once when I cleaned the engine bay with a hose and got water down the plug holes...
