So with gas going up and up the cost of driving the bimmer to work 70km each way is starting to escalate, and not that happy clocking up the kms so fast either. My partner has appropriated the MX for her personal use and I was thinking of getting a little 1300cc beater for getting to and from work.
Any ideas? We have practically zero traffic down here, so don't need passing power, as long as it'll do 110 or so I'd be happy. As long as it was miserly on gas and not much outlay, I don't really want to spend over $2k or so, less if possible.
There are a heap of little cars out there, any I should steer well clear of?

Yep, go for a starlet, could get mine down to 5.5L/100k's when doing an economy drive.
Cynos would also be good, ive got the engine out of one in my starlet now and managed 400k's of thrashing to 3/4 of a tank on the cruise the other weekend

Subaru 360 or Daihatsu 360, if your eco penis just isn't big enough.

Thanks, a March does sound good. I'd hazard a guess that any of the fuel infected sub 1300 cars out there would be suitable. Ill do some asking around down here, see what's out there.
Thanks for the offer of a Punto, but I'm way down in the deep south so getting it would be a problem. My arm could be twisted for anything with a scorpion logo though!

New diesel 500 does a zillion k's to a litre too, but that's way out the budget.
