Is yours image stabilized though Daniel?
I was also looking at this lens - http://www.trademe.co.nz/electronics-ph ... 710428.htm . ignore the price and stuff, it was just the first one i found on trademe. I wont be able to afford one till the end of d1 season at least though. Rent to pay, etc.
Thats about the price ive seen most stabilised versions of that lens go for.
Mines non-is so you have to refrain from having too much sugar while using it

As BRM said i too have found a slightly heavier body and lens to have helped my panning a lot on longer shutter speeds.

Not having media pass is a little bit of a pain but it just makes you be a bit more creative in your positioning to get the shots.

Heres some sample shots ive taken on my 70-200mm f4 L non-is (click for full size)

Steadies your movements and some times more hits?

Just from what i've noticed playing with all kinds of lenses.

=)
You may have a good point, though playing around with an 18-105mm DX lens (probably comparable to the 70-300mm VR I'm looking at, and most 55-200mm or similar lenses) I find I grip close to the body anyway, so the lack of weight is kind of nice. D3s is a pretty heavy body though, so maybe I get stability from that while a smaller body would benefit from weight stability from a 70-200mm?

I'm probably going to go down to Pukekohe on the 6th, I'll flick you a message if so?

I'd definitely suggest something with some form of image stabilisation. I'd been using my old 80-200mm which was originally designed in the film era, and going from that to the Tamron with VC was pretty amazing. Image stabilisation really does help with panning I've found!

There's also the Tamron 70-300mm f/4-5.6 VC as well, if you're in the market for something cheaper. Seems to be quite sharp from others' photos I've found online, has Vibration Control and can be had from Expert Infotech for around $530. Won't be much good for still shots but would be perfect for panning at smaller apertures. I'm currently considering it or a used Nikon 70-300mm.

Just checked and my Tamron was just under $1500 brand new :)

Will do :)

Going to pick up a D300 tomorrow as a crop to go alongside my D3S. It's a heavy beast so having a standard-bodied DX camera will be nice for wandering around, and the extra reach will come in use for lightweight sports and wildlife!

Here's several photos I snapped at 4 & Rotary myself. Pretty lazy to go through all of my photos; I'm not much for car shows and think I prefer the action, but here's a few anyway!

Just did some searching and discovered that my issues are common with the 450d. Feck! Looks some manufacturing defect that softens the image.

So crisp 8)

Shifting the darks up in tone curve works really well for those silver tones as well!

Corded, what camera/lens were you using? Nice pictures by the way, R33 coupe is my favourite Skyline. They don't get enough love for some reason.

Cheers Mr.Shine, I'm going to learn about and play with the curves when I get home, I've never experimented with them before.

Thanks Skilful, I do love a well done 33 coupe!

Camera is a 550d with a 50mm 1.8, still quite entry level as most of my money seems to go into the MX5 , all of my photos are shot with the same setup.

Just got back from a 2700km road trip, all done with roof off! We passed this guy while on the scenic route south from Arthurs Pass, miles from anywhere.

You can see our car reflected in his paintwork. Sorry about the quality, taken with my phone.

Been thinking about one day owning an old Ford from the 20s. Be mad cruising around at 30kph and the traffic accepting it ;-)

My input to the thread is that sunblock and sweat on a lens make photos blurry as i found out

Brilliant! :D

So I finally managed to have my Auckland Zoo behind the scenes experience with Chris McLennan as the winner of the Nikon Zoo Snaps competition last year.

Had a great time and Chris brought along some of the big toys to play with, so we were wandering around the zoo with a 500mm f/4 and 80-400mm f/4.5-5.6 as well as a few other bits and pieces. Chris was really laid back and down to earth and we had someone from T. A Macalister/Nikon New Zealand with us taking some publicity shots I guess.

I can't wait to get home from this half day of work and work on the photos!

hello,
I posted some of these images on the MCM forums in this thread giving full credit to the photographers.
http://forums.mightycarmods.com/showthr ... like/page2

if anyone is unhappy and would like me to remove their images then I will do so with haste. I just figured that such fine photography deserved a wider contextual audience.

Heres a couple from a recent trackday, went in the yellow Integra around the track. Good fun, just a bit scary with the BMW race guys, they get pretty close and pass us like we're racing.
