Firstly, thanks to both Alex and Biff for their effort to ensure sanity
prevails.

Alex, the last time I checked, the right to maintain a minority point of
view (both intellectually and behaviourally) and express that point of
view (freedom of speech) is a cornerstone of democratic societies
world-wide - including New Zealand. I suspect you will understand that
little will be achieved by injecting or debating at what point in time
a minority view and associated behaviour becomes destructive.

On the other hand, vindictive, or self-righteous behaviour in support of
one's prejudicial beliefs tends to be universally rejected.

"I admit to a historic difficulty in accepting that any of my actions
should ever be governed by the conventions and expectations of others".

That's not my statement. It is a quote, made by Michael Laws
approximately a month ago in his commentary in the Sunday Star-Times.
Whether you agree or disagree, like or distain Michael Laws, one must
acknowledge that as a former MP, successful journalist and now a
recently elected Mayor of a NZ city/town -- he's anything but a criminal
--- or for that matter warrants any New Zealander (native-born or via
passport) to "do him personal harm" for being unconventional in his
views or for not satisfying other's expectations.

The continuum for expressing varying points of view over the internet is
vast - even terrorists leverage the medium. Again, on the other hand, no
one endorses their behaviour against others who have not personally
harmed them in any way.

No doubt there will those who will respond by saying "you broke the
law". However as you and others have pointed out, and as has been
repeatedly demonstrated through threads on this site, there are list
members who overtly break the law of the land (printed front plates, car
modifications, etc.) with some expressing their resentment when they get
a speeding ticket claiming it to be primarily a revenue collecting
endeavour rather than one motivated by safety concerns (a view I
personally subscribe to)

Consequently, may I suggest you redirect your efforts not at me, but at
others on the list. Thanking you in advance for any further constructive
effort on your part.

Regards
Bill

Please allow me to join Bill in thanking Biff and Alex for returning sanity to
the list.

Bill's comments below are, I think, a well thought out expression of his
feelings on the matter and life in general, which I respect.

Bill and I have had some brief email correspondence ths morning, entered into
I must say, with some very subtle humour on Bill's part.

I will confess to having over re-acted in this matter, I believe that Bill
appreciates the reason for this over reaction.

I trust that we can now all consider the matter closed and get on with
enjoying life and our MX5s

Best Regards

Eric West
