I am sure that those members who have attended the various "Warbirds over
Wanaka" events in past years will be saddened to hear that Ray Hanna, a Kiwi
and former leader of The Red Arrows, founder of "The Old Flying Machine
Company and, with his late son Mark, was one of the leading pilots and
contributors to Wanaka,
passed away at Duxford in England on 2nd December.

Regards

Eric

Saw him and his P-40 at the Taupo airshow last year. He was awesome as
always.

Fly on Ray :-(

Hi Eric

Thanks for letting us know about Ray Hanna. That's sad news.

I was at the Warbirds over Wanaka airshow some years ago and was privileged to
be among the crowd present who saw Ray fly Sir Tim Wallis' immaculate
Supermarine Spitfire MkXVI at the time.

With what skill did Ray fly that incredibly beautiful machine - it was sheer
poetry in motion - and the sounds made by the Packhard Merlin engine are still
clearly imprinted on my mind.

R.I.P. Ray.
