MX-5 and motorbikes...

Post by WiM » Mon Nov 21, 2005 10:30 pm

Gopod to see that more people drive motorbikes too! I drive a BMW
K100RT Touring bike in Belgium and one of my mates will buy it of me.
But in NZ I would like to get another bike, but a little sportier
than the Beemer. My father just retired from being a BMW motorbike
mechanic so driving a BMW bike was just very handy and cheapish as I
had all the knowledge handy (thanks dad!). But I move away and the
bike has to go, making space in NZ for another bike. Was kinda
thinking of getting something like a 1998 to 2000 Suzuki TL 1000 or
similar (Honda VTR1000, Aprilia RSV Mille, ...). Anybody experience
with these bikes?

Hi Wim,
Just to give you an idea, in my looking round I saw a nice 1999 Suzuki 1200
Bandit at $8100. 22,000Km

It seems you can get a really nice, relatively late, high performance bike
for between $8 & 12,000

MX-5 and motorbikes...

hi guys.
i've been riding bikes for 22 years now, and prefer to roll my own nowadays.
i'm currently building a modern replica of a '70s flat track racer
for the road, using a yamaha sr500 single 4 stroke.
see details here on NZ's best motorcycle community website -

i've had a lot of bikes, and like the mx5 now i'm drawn to simple
retro bikes that handle well...

Mmmmh, was checking out trademe.co.nz and saw a few bikes that
attract my attention :-)
I drive mororbikes since the day I turned 18 (only allowed from tht
age in Belgium) and had a Yamaha RD125 2 cylinder two stroke to start
with (like http://tinyurl.com/alfqt), loads a fun but low speed
(120kmh wind in teh back and down hill). Then I drove my father's old
Beemer, a model R75/6 for 2 years (like http://tinyurl.com/cl49n) and
now I am driving this kinda bike: BMW K100RT (like http://tinyurl.com/duhfq)
All cool bikes but 'older' style, meaning not so up-to-date brakes,
not the best performance, not ... Anyhow you get my point I want a
more performing bike and take it to a race course maybe from time to
time to have a good go.

Reminds me of the "GTSH" which was famous in Australia about 30 years ago,
essentially a Ford "T" Rail with a stonking great V8, and a very rustic "out
house", complete with throne, for the drivers position. A wonderful looking
thing, which could go like the proverbal rat up a drainpipe

I will leave it to your imagination as to what "GTSH" stood for.
