Cursing myself for not knowing the programme was on until the first email
arrived.

There are various versions of the origins of the Kilroy legend - Nicky's is
the most popular but there seems to be no more historical evidence for it than
for any of the others. I guess we'll never know.

Eric, I think the character peering over the wall is called 'Chad' - at least,
my father always referred to it/him as Chad. He said that it was originally
constructed from an wiringdiagram showing two resistors as the hands - can't
remember the rest, as he was a trained electrical engineer whereas my school
physics only taught me how to wire a plug. No doubt you will be able to
recreate it.

My recollection of his stories is that the Chad character was popularly used
to draw attention to and make fun of shortages during WW2. It would be drawn
on something - a wall near a shop, perhaps - with the phrase "Wot? No
bananas?" or whatever underneath.

Incidentally, why don't those of us with representative examples (ie original)
of all the models on the club list send in photos so that the list can be made
even more useful? After all, it is the world's best sportscar not designed by
a German...
