Green Ferraris

Post by Simon Lord » Fri Nov 11, 2005 9:28 am

I love a challenge.
From memory, Ecurie Belgique used to race yellow Ferraris and I believe
Roger Penske raced a dark blue 512 with yellow pinstriping (that dates it!).
The Rob Walker Ferraris were in the dark blue of the Scottish flag, but
green..? Even a quick google didn't remind me of any of the classic Ferrari
racers appearing in this colour. Road cars are different, of course, and to
my mind don't count.

Incidentally, in 1962 a works Ferrari almost appeared in dark blue because
Enzo was so keen to get Stirling Moss that he was prepared to let Rob Walker
run a works car and paint it in his own colours. If even Enzo was prepared
to concede that factors such as driver and team manager had a bigger impact
upon the speed of a car than the colour, perhaps Gazza might do the same?

Thinking of getting a tune up before our big South Island trip. Has anyone
noticed a difference with the iridium NGK spark plugs? Power or economy?
Kind of expensive over here in NZ at $25 a pop.(vs $7 US) Also, the guy at
repco was saying they are pre gapped but sometimes that's not quite right
for a particular engine??
Would you also replace the fuel filter? Not had the car long so don't know
what the previous owner had done.
Cheers, Peter

Gazza - stick with your staunch attitude on red MX5s!
People who drive a Japanese sportscar coloured BRITISH RACING GREEN eat
Steak and Kidney pie with chopsticks!
They are confused and possibly DANGEROUS!

being cautious around those -

That is a brilliant riposte, Martin - unfortunately, red having been
appropriated by Italy as its national racing colour, I think you are left
with the only possible colour scheme for an MX5 as being white with a red
stripe and red 'rising sun' as featured on the 1964 F1 Honda. Seems a rather
extreme response to your fears of culinary miscegenation...

Why the slagging of the "BRG" colour of the MX5? I drive a 1991 Special
Edition and it is a beautiful car. Incidentally the colour is NOT BRG. It
is called NEO GREEN and looks much better than the common red.

Sorry Sandie "Neo green" by any other name is still BRG. In fact Neo
green sounds like a name for a colour some gay "cross" hairdresser would
invent :)

My NA is NEO green while my NB is GRACE green, but they are both near enough
to BRG for me.
As a matter of interest, how many MX5's are actually owned and / or driven
by hairdressers?
The road test in RPM magazine said that the MX5 has an image problem as it
is always seen driven by 20 something blondes who buy it because it looks
cute! Well I certainly am not 20 something or blonde and I suspect many on
this list don't fit the stereotype either. Perhaps things are somewhat
different in the Big Smoke. I don't recall seeing many 20 something blondes
at Alexandra Park either.
Sandie, just drive your fine handling car with the knowledge that you had
the good taste to choose such a great colour that makes those angry red
owners green with envy
Grant in hot sunny Blenheim, owner of two GREEN MX5's and enjoying every
minute of it! (I would like a yellow one though)

Mmmh, like the thought of all white with a red stripe... How about
white and red ` la Porsche GT3RS? Red on the stripe on the flank and
red wheels (for pic see http://tinyurl.com/8znl3)

I can't understand why people want to make a reliable Japanese sports car
look like a crappy old British MG, for heavens sake buy an F'n' MG, they are
ugly and unreliable like the colour...

Maybe for the same reason they'd by a well designed light-weight sports
car and stick neon lights underneath & a numberplate paying tribute to a
1980s glam metal band Gazza? Personal taste maybe?
