chromed wheels

Post by cfever » Fri Oct 07, 2005 9:06 am

Hi All,

Has anyone had their standard factory mags chromed ? Saw a pic of a 2001
(?) on the internet with chromed wheels and the profile looked like the
standard factory mags on my 2002. - very snappy

They were probably polished, not chromed.

If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

In Auckland? If so, you could try
Eden Electroplaters Ltd, 222 Khyber Pass Rd, Newmarket, 09 303 3223

They have polished stuff for me before and I know that have done wheels
in the past. I heard rumours that they don't any more as they are too
complex for little money. Simple 5 spokes may be ok.

Maintenance? Cleaning like anything, and maybe more polishing with a
little metal polish occasionally. Being an Alloy, they won't rust, but
you could possibly get them clear coated (powdercoat maybe?) to keep the
shine, but then again no coat means you can do a little bit of metal
polishing any time to get the shine back.

You could try Arrow Wheels in Rosebank Rd (maybe Patiki Rd) as they do all
sorts of wheel restorations etc. My factory wheels (10AE) are polished and
have a lacquer on top of them so no more brasso/ autosol/ cleaners. A simple
wipe with a cloth has them like new again which is just fantastic for
maintenance!
