Something almost technical

Here's something almost technical:
Ever wondered what a genuine internal rear view mirror would cost?
My (NC) one has had the mirror glass replaced in a past life with ordinary
non dipping glass, most disconcerting the first time you dip it and the
picture disappears completely!
I enquired from Mazda and the replacement is $260.00.
Had a look on my mirror and it is made by Donnelly in the USA. Don't know if
they all are. Had a look on the Internet and a Donnelly mirror to fit costs
US$16.95 which relates to about NZ$25.00. They sell an auto dimming one for
US$99.00 which is tempting although a bit tricky running the power
connection to an on glass mounted mirror.
Just waiting for them to let me know the freight costs.
I tried the local wreckers for one but they don't have anything suitable.
Nor did Ross when I enquired.

Just as a thought. But there are times at night when you don't want your RV
mirror to dip/dim. I rarely use the feature, but then again I don't use my
MX at night very often, and given that they sit so low it may well be a
must. And don't forget to add lots of $$$$$$$ to the USA price for
shipping...

The one on the Beemer is "photochromatic" like a pair of glasses, that
actually works quite well, I wonder if you can get them like that for an MX5

The Donnelly photochromatic one is $US99.00.
There is a brand new one (not photochromatic) for $US10.00 on ebay and
freight to New Zealand is $US17.00 using USPS. I've asked if that is an on
glass mount one. If so I'll try it.
I do drive a lot at night and that's why I want to replace the present
mirror.

Grant,
I have a genuine Mazda mirror you can have if it suits you. Not auto dimming
unfortunately.

That original message must have been wishful thinking. just noticed I said
it was for an NC model! Of course I meant an NB.
Thanks for the offer Dez. I imagine what you have is for an NA so won't fit
unfortunately. The NB mounts to a small plate glued onto the windscreen
glass. This means the mirror construction where it mounts to the support arm
is quite different.
See you at the local meeting.
