Hey, we just completed an extended weekend away in our newly purchased red
91, ( bought from a private classified add and pretty much on a rush of
blood to the head) down to the Naki and around and back to Hamilton over
three days. People say you cant get much luggage in but we managed to stuff
two reasonable size big sports bags in to the boot, and the little thing
flew all the way down/ around and back. I'm six foot seven, and whilst it
was best described as a firm fit, I've had less room in some four door cars,
( plus they were boring which only heightens claustrophobia).
Quite a plucky wee performer,if the timing belt hasnt been replaced, I
extend my grateful thanks, I was impressed with the pulling power uphills,
including the Mahoenui hill, which sucks the guts out of a lot of good cars.
And we managed to show a clean pair of heels after entering the Awakino
gorge in the dark at the front of some keen travellers, gave it stick, and
left all the other traffic a serious few minutes behind, without having to
do anything illegal or dangerous.( We lived in the Naki for forty odd years
so we know where the corners are meant to go). I understand what all the
fuss is about, they stick to the road and point where you want them.to go.
What fun, I cant imagine life without one. Altogether for a high mileage car
of unknown maintenance history, very pleasing.
Now I'll get it checked out. ( wrong way to do things I know)
The paint job dosnt get any better, so that might be first, If I can stop
driving it long enough!
Saw a half a dozen mx5,s in New Plymouth, all in good order, all friendly
waves etc, a couple of early models for sale in car yards, one white, one
red, ready for the summer impulse buyers
A bright yellow second generation parked in the street also...
The new mx5 must be pretty spectacular, wonder if my bank thinks theres
enough equity for me to buy a new one ...See you all in Auckland...

Thanks for the report and look forward to meeting you on Sunday morning!
Get that space saver spare mounted under the floor and you will double the
useful boot capacity. Well worth doing.
Another excuse for a good ddrive would be to the meeting in Christchurch
over Labour Weekend!!
Just imagine driving the roads of the South Island.

Grant in Blenheim (not so sunny today but still got to a pleasent 19
degrees).

Hi Carey

My husband is tall and he got some more leg room by changing the steering
wheel for a small, more sporty one. It looks cool, feels even better to
drive with, and gives valuable inches.

I know you said it's okay for room, but every bit counts when you're tall.

Ciao

Thanks for that, the current wheel is a momo, but I hear that may be
original, just missing a mazda centre cap?
I was expecting to arrive in New Plymouth and crawl out across the pavement,
but was pleasantly surprised. Anyone woh ever drove a Honda Prelude will
know that they can be terminal

There was a Momo in our car when we got it - it had the Mazda Centre cap,
but we didn't like it so took it off. The replacement was also a Momo, but
had a cool bright yellow horn button that some #*%#!$ nicked off with when
we were at the beach. Now we've got the old black & yellow horn button on
the wheel.
