review .. for what it is worth

Post by EricW » Tue Jul 26, 2005 4:18 pm

That's interesting,

I have thought about this for some time and have not done it yet because my
driving of the car is far from extreme, but it sounds like it does not need to
be to make it worth while.

There is a new crowd across the road from my office in Industry Rd Penrose
called Redline Performance. They have a few MX5 bits (not many) but have a
body kit and tower braces. I don't know who makes either, but I will find out,
the front tower brace they want $80 for which sounds like a bargain, but it
could be junk.

I will have a look and report back

None, AFAIK. Quite a few people just order them directly though - good
fast service! It takes longer to clear customs than to arrive in the
country ... :P

review .. for what it is worth

Post by DBM58 » Thu Jul 28, 2005 12:47 pm

I too have a tower strut brace but unfortunately, now that I have a Loch
Stewart cold-air box, I have had to take it off. Has anyone fit a brace with
the cold air box? Would a supercharger require a different sort of brace?

Is there a brace available with a steeper angle to the ends? (the length of
the top part of my brace is 530mm)

Lastly, anyone has one, if a suitable enticement were offered, would you be
prepared to swap?

Thank you for your help

Best regards

Yes, you can buy a brace that fits the stock JR supercharger I believe.
I've seen mention of it on the US lists. Most standard braces do not fit.

Sorry - I know that this has been covered before (I just cannot find
it).

Doing the right thing by telling my insurers what I have done to the car
- and gee now they won't cover me as the car is modified.

Can anyone please tell me a modified-car friendly insurer?

review .. for what it is worth

I had the old style (fibreglass box) Loch Stewart air box and it was
fitted with a mazdaspeed brace as well. All I needed to do was shift the
airbox back slightly by a couple of inches and I had no clearance
issues.

The outlet of the supercharger comes within a centimetre of the bonnet
so you wont find a brace to go over it. A few designs have a sort of
boomerang shaped brace bar which is far enough back to go around behind
it. Jackson Racing do a bar with three mounting points and two bars. The
bars go from the suspension tops (like ordinary braces do) and meet in
the centre of the fire wall (actually the thin metal bit above the
firewall & in front of the wipers).

There is a photo of the Loch stewart box with brace on my page

With the weather getting colder, im after some good
black suede type driving gloves so my hands dont

just good quality gloves that dont cost the Earth...
Anyone seen a good pair or know where to get them?
