NB door speaker replacement

Post by Grant » Sun Jul 24, 2005 10:27 pm

For anyone thinking of replacing their door speakers in an NB, SuperCheap
Auto have some 200mm subwoofers ($39.00 each) that will fit in place of
those rather awful Bose units. I replaced the Bose head and amplifier with a
JVC unit with MP3 and WMA capability. I chose it because it had a rotary
control (I hate push button volume controls!) and an audio attenuator button
which I use a lot. With the JVC unit wired to the new woofers and the
original door mounted tweeters the sound was greatly improved over the Bose
setup. Plenty of bass available and not too much money spent! No
modification required to fit these speakers either, the mounting holes match
those in the doors.
I know someone suggested that JVC is the BRG of car audio but that's ok. The
car is GREEN!

The Pioneer 8" 3 ways work fantastic and aren't too expensive.

If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

NB door speaker replacement

I tried searching the net, asking around the Marlborough and Nelson regions
(at specialist installers as well) plus on this forum and no one could tell
me where to get any 200mm speakers. If I had known about the Pioneers I
probably would have gone for them. The closest I could find were 6x9 but too
difficult to fit them.

Can anyone help with design plans for a MSNZ roll cage for the MX5, or a
recommendation of someone in the Auckland area (pref North Shore) who
has put one in previously.

Many Thanks

Chris

Hi Chris

I had mine installed by Herbert Fabrications of Gills Road, Albany
They did a very tidy job with TIG welding on the visible welds.

Thanks Keith - That would be perfect as its just down the road from
home. Being cheeky - is there any chance of having a look at it?
