What I can not understand is: How do most Germans seem to survive driving on
their motorway?

Answer : very simple !!

Proper educated drivers , common sense and responsible ... and not
suicidal (!!!)

It's time,... we get a proper driver license policy , with " Real trained "
driving schools instructors only ...to teach for your Drivers license !!!
and change drivers age to 18 years as they do in so many other countries.

It will saves many lives , and saves the country " trillions" , and
perhaps and we can bring the tax down

We needs politicians with "backbones " !!! haven't seen any so far .

Well said Bert..
Could I add to your comments. we really need to look at some way of
restricting ownership of very fast cars (in the case of young and or
inexperienced drivers). I hesitate to inform you that my first car was a
Morris 8! Fortunately for me, I was not able to own a twin turbo Legacy till
I was 50ish, otherwise I might well have become a statistic!
I believe there are still restrictions on the cc rating of your first
motorcycle, for similar reasons...

There is also the 'slight' (OK HUGE!!!) difference between the design of an
autobahn and our NZ roads. Autobahn = straight roads with gentle bends, wide,
smooth, with barriers along the middle... NZ road = Windy, bumpy, narrow, no
barriers down the middle.

So I'd rather crash at 200Km/hr on an autobahn with everyone going the same
way than get struck head on by someone coming the other way too fast on a
skinny, windy bumpy NZ road who thinks he's the best driver because he once
owned a Porche.

Plus here there are too many dumb ass's who are too stupid to indicate and
think it's also OK to run red lights.
