power steering versus not.

Post by Ken McNoe » Mon Jul 11, 2005 6:44 pm

Hi Ken

Sorry to bother you but I have been trying to place a question on the
mx5 website for a few weeks now but without any success, I think it must
have something to do with the sites subscribe rules and my email address
not matching up from my internet settings (or something). I have plucked
your email address from the many recent messages.

I want to ask the club members if they can offer any advise on the
disadvantages of buying a NZ new mx5 that has no power steering or
aircon. I am a bit unsure if the lack of power steering will make the
car harder to live with such as when parking. Also if the aircon is a
good thing to have.

Would you mind asking this question for me next time you are on the
site.

Much appreciated - thankyou Alan

Hey Alan

Glad to help, but you better join our club when you get one :-)

NZ Advantage...
1)The mileage is more likely to be correct, but some of us have Jap imports at
around 200K, so no worries.
2)No other advantage.

NZ Disadvantage... The extra bits rock!
1)Aircon' is more important than you would ever guess (I was surprised as I
thought I'd never need it, in summer it's essential as sitting in the sun at
the lights gets hot fast. And winter even more so, if you are a real bloke you
won't need a hard top, the soft tops do let water in here and there and
without aircon' for demisting those windows you'll suffer.
2)Power steering is great for parking, but you can live without it.
3)Does the NZ one have electric windows? Always a pain in the ass to have to
lean across to put the passenger one up and down all the time.

All said and done, any MX5 is better than none as you will enjoy and can join
our great club, with a great magazine and great events etc etc.

And for the sake of all that is good and decent in this world we live in,
don't get a BRG (British Racing Green) one as they are just fugly.

Ours is a NZ New 89...and yes Gazza... not BRG... lovely pristine
white.

No power steering,,,, and tis cool... you gotta drive it instead of
just steer it.

Not a problem.. OK.. a little heavier parking etc, but you get used to it.
Prefer to

live with that, and drive a car that you have to really drive... no
electric windows

either... (anyone know where I can find a driver's door window
winder?? )

See you at the events... and hey,,, buy a white one... R.&R.
