Replace clutch pads.

Post by Greg and Shona Powell » Sun Jul 10, 2005 6:25 pm

I've decided doing this work myself it beyond my level of expertise so am
going to get the local MX5 garage to do it.
I have been given an estimated price (GST incl.) of $560.
Quoted $315 for the clutch plates and $50 for the flywheel (assume this is
balancing). Seems expensive and will get another price but has anyone had this
work done on their car recently?

Greg

Go to autobahn in Glenfield, I have had all the work done on my car
(service, tune-up, auto shift lever tightened, new leads etc) there by a
friend of mine/mechanic called Neil. His cell is 0272581317. He is
excellent and I am sure will be a better price than you have been
quoted. Make sure you mention my name.

No idea if the $560 is fair.

You can go to Autoclutch in Sandringham (if you're in Auckland) they give the
club a good discount and supply clutches etc. Helpful too. The $315 should be
a clutch late and pressure plate, the $50 is for the flywheel and is probably
just for a re-face of the flywheel (autoclutch charge $30 but you have to have
it off the car), a balance would cost another $90 and is only done by a
specialist balancer.

I think it " pretty fair " the price quoted below ( = 497.77 excl GST )
... have done 100's of clutch jobs myself in the past ...
