MX V's MG
A friend of mine is trying to decide on which convertible to buy, he likes the
look of the MG (no accounting for taste) anyway he's leaning towards the MX5
of course. He just sent me this great quote he found on a web site...
The MX5 is an excellent package - well screwed together, fun predictable
handling, good cockpit & driving position.
The MGF is fun for about 3 minutes until you discover that it's an
insufferable piece of shit with egg cartons for suspension and switchgear from
a Montego. Not to mention gearshift linkages made of silly putty.
LOL

I know a local here who sold an MX5 and bought an MGF. His wife will no
longer go out with him in the MG as it always breaks down to her
embarrasment! He's now looking at a Z3. Will he never learn? Also, there is
nowhere to put any luggage. Try going away for a holiday in an MGF assuming
it will actually get there.
The MX5 mightn't have the largest luggage capacity but it certainly is much
better than any other similar size and price sports car.
Recently did 2600km over a week in the North Island and had plenty of room
for our luggage. Added a MaXi5ac for extra capacity. Well worth the
investment. Check the add in TopDown.
Grant in sunny Blenheim (well it is today).

When I had the MX5 in the panel beaters a few months ago, getting the faded
red bits touched, there was an MG in as well. It had been there for about 4
months waiting for parts for the suspension and steering, which apparently
were, according to the panel beater, originally sourced from the Austin
Allegro. They wanted about $1200 for a fuel tank as well.
Some of you younger members might have never seen an Allegro, that is another
great benefit of youth, on a par with missing the Vietnam war!
However, if you wondered why MG Rover, British Leyland, BMC or what ever they
called themselves over the years, only survived through Government handouts
and finally went down in a screaming heap, look not much further than the
Allegro and similar cars.
My impressions of driving an MG TF, underpowered, badly made, handling to die
for (if you try to go quickly, you probably will) and vastly over priced.
Confusious say "Ride in third class night cart, better than first class walk"
The MG is, however about fourth of fifth class on that basis.
Having said that, I really don't like the car at all, or hadn't you noticed!
