Hi Bert, a very easy job that should be done every 2 yrs or 40,000km. I have
bought mine from Repco in the past.Watch out for their 25% off sales and buy
all your goodies.

Should be changed according to the manual at 50K,got mine from the Mazda
dealer at about $90 and wasn't an original part either.
Since heard someone got one from B n T Automotive for about $60,access is
not easy but only took about 20min to change.

Hello Bert

At the first Club Technical day in Hamilton I bought a fuel filter and thought
that it appeared to be such a simple job that I would fit it before the trip
back to Auckland. It is possible to crawl under the car and make the change,
but it is awkward. Of more significance is the fact that there is a method of
purging the fuel line before you start - explained fully in the Haynes manual
(that was back in Aucklan). The result was that when under the car and
removing the old filter, gravity took over and enough petrol poured out and
down my arm to be really, really uncomfortable.

Hope this is of some assistance.

Regards

Hi...

A new ChCh member here! (1800cc)
Need to change my fuel filter (under car). Which is best to use - factory or
aftermarket (Repco)? Any idea on prices please?

Cheers, Ian Wooster

Bert...

My Handbook says fuel filter every 30 months/50,000k. My 'Performance
Projects' book (US) says that Mazda recommend new fuel filter every 60,000
miles! I think my NZ new handbook may be the best advice, but I stand to be
corrected on this.
I am also about to change mine for the first time, and am seeking advice on
the best one to use.

Hi all...

Looking to make contact with anyone who owns an 1800 (in my case a late 1993
NZ new manual), who has made various performance modifications, and happy to
email me direct with some tips...Have just bought my car, and looking to
improve its power a little, handling and stopping...
I am particularly keen to hear from anyone who has changed their rear muffler
for more hp/better tone, without investing in a polished mega dollar
monster!!! (Have done the 14 degree timing mod and lost the cat
converter..running the new 98 oct BP fuel).
Anyone who has done their suspension bushes..nolathane have only a few
applications according to their catelogue...

Thanks, Ian Wooster (Ch Ch)

Hi Ian

I have added extractors, 2 inch system all through and a
louder muffler on the rear plus K&N filter, lightened
standard flywheel and 14 degrees on the timing. My 1.8 is
installed in a 1990 car. Am working on getting an aluminium
flywheel and installing a RX7 flowmeter. Goes much better
than a stock 1600 and seems to pull a lot harder than a
stock 1.8 but have no objective figures.

Other than the above the next step is forced induction. I'm
considering my options at the moment.

Hi Don...

Thanks for all the info. Do you know the make of the muffler you have
fitted? Did you get your flywheel lightened yourself, and to what weight
(they are 18ilbs standard I believe)..cost?

When you get your alloy flywheel, I could be interested in your existing
one..

My email addy is walksdrives@xtra.co.nz

Hi Ian

I had the flywheel lightened and balanced by a machine shop in Hamilton that
Don from Autoway recommended. Only 1 - 2 pounds removed so it is unlikely
you would feel the difference. I had the work done prior to installing the
1.8 in my 1.6 car so I have no idea what difference that mod will have made.

The muffler was one recommended by the muffler place that did the work on
the system. I think it is a Turbo brand but not sure. It is a nice sound
overall but has a slight raspy resonance at around 3500 rpm which a
resonator would probably cure.

I am a little apprehensive about the aluminium flywheel given the posts
about the noise they make.

I will install when I get back and if happy you are welcome to my old
flywheel for a reasonable price.

Cheers

Keep me posted. If a Jackson Racing intake (for am 1800) accidentally finds
its way into your suitcase, let me know!
