today and Stereo

Post by Ken McNoe » Sun Jun 26, 2005 9:45 pm

Hi people.

What a great event today, good introduction into the club!!

I have decided after checking out your cars that I want the original
stereo for the 1991 roadster that I have. (eg double size).
If anyone has one in good condition that they have taken out (and it has
a CD player) then I am keen to buy it! This will save me having to find
the thin surround for the stereo/compartment.

Once again, big thanks.

Well that'd rip your shorts (as the saying goes).

It was only late this evening when I was checking my diary (where I had
noted in large letters "MX5 run - Salty Dog") that I realised that today was
the day. For some reason I had it in mind that the run was in a few weeks
time ... damn !!

It certainly looked like the weather would have been fantastic - I hope you
all had a great time.

Bother, bother, bother, bother ...

Regards,
Greg

PS - Ken - re stereo - I have an original double DIN from my 1990 - however
the CD is knackered, as will most from that era. Unless you're keen to get
an original one repaired (at some cost & some doubt as to the outcome) I'd
keep looking for a stereo surround. I can send you photos of the single
DIN install on mine if that would help.

That would be awesome Greg, thanks
Email is kenmcnoe@xtra.co.nz. I might actually look at having one
repaired; I really liked the look of the ones today. I am having major
probs trying to find a surround. We have put a single DIN (brought from
Gazza) for now, But I would like to put in a new stereo next month, the
sound is a bit tinny now and I use the car every day.

Greg,
When you say the CD is knackered, how knackered?? And how much would you
want for it? Might be worth my while playing around with it.

Stereo surround:

I got one from Ross and it's great.

I suggest planning to replace the door speakers and headrest speakers.
They don't last, and new ones will be far superior.

Thomas.

Hey Thomas,
I don't need the whole console, mine is in great condition, all I need
is the thin plastic surround that fits into the console from the back,
around the stereo and underneath compartment.

I am planning a trip down to pick up new headrest speakers from Ross
soon. Replacing the door speakers next month when I replace the stereo.

FYI - just replaced my mate's original stock '90 speakers and they
were totally shagged! Cones weren't even attached to the frame due to
rot. They also sounded really tinny ...

Replaced them with some $20 6.5" cheapies from SuperCheapAuto and he's
stoked !! "wow - bass!" he said :)

the plastic rain shield things on the back can be prised off with a
screwdriver, although we cuoldn't reuse it due to different magnet
depths. Use glad-wrap instead :P

Subject: FW: NEW RADIO

I got a new car radio yesterday
and it's terrific

If I say "Rock" it plays rock and roll.

If I say "Rap" it plays rap.

If I say "Love" it plays love songs.

Three kids ran out in front of the car

and I said
"F* * king kids!"

And it played Michael Jackson.
