Was there a Wellington event this weekend

Post by johnw11 » Mon Jun 20, 2005 2:38 pm

There I was driving towards Johnsonville, from Khandallah, about 11am on
Sunday 19th June, when I see a stream of MX5s going the other way. I was
not in mine so it was not worth me waving.

I have been planning to join the club and thought I would go along to the
first event to meet everyone before I join. I have been an eye on the
events shown on the website but not seen anything organised for
Wellington. Did I miss something or was this not organised by the club?

Regards

John

This was the Kapiti Branch out on a monthly run, We went from Waikanae and
out via Wainuiomata to the coast then back to Petone for lunch. Our next
outing is on 17 July with a 200km run to Woodville and the wind turbines.

Tony

Thanks for that. Looks like the June one was missed from the site, as
past ones are there, but no future events are shown.

Are the local chapters distinct, or can people in Wellington join the
Kapiti bunch.

John

Hi John,

Come on in, the waters fine!

Actually it is all one club, and while we are organised into regions for
convenience, if you belong to The MX5 Club of New Zealand you belong to all of
the regions as well, (Except Christchurch, who do their own thing, (can
someone tell me why)? But they always make us welcome anyway) The point is
that we all welcome MX5ers no matter where you are from, just turn up prepared
to have fun.

I think this behaviour us just endemic to Christchurch.

I belonged for many years to a national motorcycle club which was
"national" in nature... with always the notable exception of
Christchurch who, as you say, had to "do their own thing"... there
was often an undercurrent of, "We're not going to be told what to do
by bloody North Islanders (or any one else) even if we end up doing
exactly the same things!" (Some in the m/c club said it had something
to do with inbreeding down there... but though you might well believe
that, I could never say such a thing!)

In any case you are correct in that they always made us welcome... as
long as we understood it was a purely Cantabrian hospitality and had
nothing to do with a "national" nature!

Eric

Thanks for this. Just need to keep an eye out on the site for Wellington
area events. There do not seem to be many

on the website. Maybe I just need to hand over my dosh first so I get the
club magazine.

I can assure you that "Topdown" is worth the subscription on it's own,
anything else is a bonus!

here's another firsthand review:
http://www.miata.net/news/ncfirst.html

The first shot at the top is impressive - looks a lot like an NA with
a more Japanese face on it. All good.

S2000 clone?? It doesn't make 200+ hp, not even close ...

There was an NC in Oz, which is where Dave (Raddatz?) is :)
