Backfiring

Post by Thomas Beagle » Wed Feb 16, 2005 9:08 am

Hi,

It seems that my car is nearly as sorted out as possible for now. It's
got the new suspension, the crankshaft nose has been welded up, I'm
looking at getting a new and watertight top.

I've just got one problem: the car backfires when you lift off to
upchange under moderate to heavy acceleration.

What causes this? Should I be worried about it?

The car history is somewhat unknown. A previous owner was obviously a
bit of a boy-racer and might have made engine mods for all I know.

Thanks,

Thomas Beagle

Hi Thomas

Not sure if this will help, but at this link for our club site
http://www.mx5club.org.nz/maintenance/e ... agnostics/ there is an article
on how to make a very simple engine diagnostic reader. It will at least tell
you of any obvious engine sensor problems. I made one in a few minutes just
out of curiosity. Quite fun and worth while I think.

Good Luck
