Has anyone paid to have either of these added to an MX5. What kind of price
would you expect in a standard 1990 NA model?
Which would be better for track racing?

Turbo vs Supercharged
Hi Rick...
Am slowly developing a NA for the track...but from previous race cars, I can
tell you that there is probably more things you can do to almost any car, in
terms of reducing its lap times, BEFORE bolting on a turbo or
supercharger...and for less money!
Good luck, Ian (ChCh)

Thanks for that. I'm changing the exhaust, cat removed, and a cold air box
being developed. Race tyres on standard wheels and the brakes have been
uprated.
Im not sure what else, as Ive got the weight down and tuned for 98ul.

Your first post lead me to believe the car was standard...but you are on the
right track in my opinion...race tyres will make probably the biggest single
difference difference in my opinion (as long as you don't overtyre the car
)185/60 x 14 race tyres -yokos on the light factory 93 and later rims is what
I am going for. I run 195/50 x 15 on the road. I would be looking at your
suspension next - bushes, uprated roll bars - I am going with 22mm front and
12 mm rear as I have an 'open diff'. My car is a late 93 1800 so have an 11mm
rar bar, but you should already have a 12mm rear. You may want to stiffen your
suspension using the equivalent on the 93 and later factory suspension bracing
front and rear.
Done the 14 degree timing change? Sport wheel alignment?
Hard top for racing and or half roll cage. Believe it or not a race seat/race
harness will almost always lower your lap times!!

Spec miata is good, but they have very strict rules to keep costs down and
cars competitive.
They have the best set up to suit the restricted changes you can make,
there's often better modifications you can make if you're not limited by
rules.
I agree with everybody that you're better spending money on getting the car
to handle and on driver training before you throw money at a stoopercharger
or a turbo.

If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

Rick,
if it is for the track then a turbo is going to be better imho.
On the track I would not drop below 3,500 rmp even at hairpins so a turbo
should be spooled up most of the time, and I would be over 5,000 rpm most of
the time.
