New Door Speakers

Post by Bill Rehm » Mon Nov 06, 2000 11:35 am

Hi guys & gals

After weeks of procrastination, an e-mail I received from Howard a few
weeks back convinced me to write this. I attempted to navigate the MX5
site to add this review myself but don't know how. Is that possible or are
most reviews, etc simply exchanged via the mailing list? Anyway, here is
the speaker review:

I purchased a pair of ALPINE SPS-1729 speakers from Paul Money in Mt Eden,
Auckland to replace the original door speakers in my 91BRG MX5 which were
in bad shape. Key to their selection was the numerous holes available
which enabled installation using the existing speaker holes. The only
installation work necessary was changing the clips on the existing speaker
wiring, making the installation a 10 -15 minute job. These 6-1/2" coaxial
2-way speakers rate 120watts peak, 30watts RMS with a frequency response of
35Hz - 25kHz. Because these speakers are efficient, I now find myself able
to maximise the fader switch (I still have the original radio/tape/CD pl
ayer) towards the headrest speakers while still obtaining significant
volume and bass from the new door speakers (which I find enhances listening
with the top down). The cost of $159 (pair) has been more than worth the
"new sound" I now enjoy.
